Plan at a glance

Small sub-site and entrance relationship

Sanwei Study Hall is at No. 241 Lu Xun Middle Road in Yuecheng District, Shaoxing, and is a small attraction within the Lu Xun Native Place system. The usual entrance is the independent checkpoint on the east side of Sanwei Study Hall. You can also approach from Lu Xun's Ancestral Home or Former Residence, but Sanwei Study Hall and Baicao Garden do not share an entrance; streets and waterways lie between them.

Sanwei Study Hall itself is very small and takes about 40 minutes to visit. If included in a full Lu Xun Native Place route, allow about 2-2.5 hours, but that longer time also covers Lu Xun's Ancestral Home, Former Residence, Baicao Garden, Zhujia Garden and the Lu Xun Memorial Hall. Sanwei Study Hall does not have a separate city-attraction ticket or a reservation platform outside the Lu Xun Native Place system.

Free entry and opening hours

Sanwei Study Hall is free and uses the real-name reservation and ID-check arrangements for Lu Xun Native Place. Reserve at least one day in advance through the Shaoxing Cultural Tourism Group or Shaoxing Lu Xun Memorial Hall WeChat accounts. On Mondays, hours are 8:30-17:00, with last entry at 16:45. From Tuesday to Sunday, hours are 8:30-21:00, with last entry at 20:30; holiday hours may be extended.

Choose your visit

Private-school classroom and the "zao" desk

Sanwei Study Hall suits students, families on educational visits, history and culture visitors, and anyone revisiting a textbook scene. The "Sanwei Study Hall" plaque in the main hall, the private-school classroom and the desk where Lu Xun carved the character "zao" are the main focus. The desk is a replica, and the visit is short, but entry still follows the on-site queue.

The value here is seeing a specific, very small private-school space, not spending half a day in a large museum. Visitors who want more about Lu Xun's childhood setting and related objects can continue through the Lu Xun Native Place route to Lu Xun's Former Residence, Baicao Garden and the Lu Xun Memorial Hall.

Relationship with Lu Xun Native Place

Sanwei Study Hall is a sub-site within Lu Xun Native Place. It can be visited quickly on its own or included as one stop on the scenic area's core route. Its reservation, identity check and Monday closure arrangements follow the Lu Xun Native Place system. After leaving, follow the on-site signs to the other areas.

Build your day

40-minute quick visit

Enter through the east gate of Sanwei Study Hall, see the desk marked with "zao" first, then visit the private-school classroom before leaving through the west-side exit. Afterward, follow the signs to Lu Xun's Former Residence across the street. Baicao Garden has a different entrance, so one visible entrance does not mean that all areas are on the same side.

Early-entry priority route

To reduce queues on weekends or public holidays, arrive at opening time, 8:30, and visit Sanwei Study Hall first. After seeing the desk and classroom, leave time for Baicao Garden, Lu Xun's Former Residence and the Lu Xun Memorial Hall. This works well for visitors who want to photograph the grey roof tiles, wooden windows, desk and private-school space; decide whether to stay longer according to the crowds.

Full Lu Xun Native Place route

For a full visit, enter through the East Gate, see Lu Xun's Ancestral Home, continue to Sanwei Study Hall, cross the street to Lu Xun's Former Residence and the rear Baicao Garden, then continue to Zhujia Garden and the Lu Xun Memorial Hall. Follow the day's signs and management arrangements, and do not take a detour based on cultural-product shop directions.

Get there

Metro, buses and walking

Take Shaoxing Metro Line 1 to Lu Xun Native Place Station. Leave through Exit A1 or A2 and walk about 5 minutes to the Lu Xun Native Place area. Buses 13, 24 and 88 stop at Lu Xun Native Place Station; from there, follow the reservation entrance and on-site signs to Sanwei Study Hall's East Gate.

Sanwei Study Hall is inside the Lu Xun Native Place area, so reaching Lu Xun Native Place does not mean you have found its entrance. Before entering, confirm your reserved time slot and available entrance. If you go in the wrong direction, follow the signs back instead of repeatedly circling the cultural-product and folk-style areas.

Driving and parking

Parking near Lu Xun Native Place is close but may be inconvenient because of fees and availability. The underground garage at Xianheng Hotel is about 200 metres from the scenic area, with a reference price of RMB 10 for up to 2 hours. You can also consider the parking area at Tashan Flower and Bird Market, then walk to the site rather than looking for a space near the main gate.

Know before you go

Queues, surfaces and mobility

Sanwei Study Hall is very small, and viewing the desk marked with "zao" can require a queue of 30 minutes during holidays. Enter at opening time when possible, or continue to other areas after taking your photographs. Stone paving and thresholds are common, so wear flat shoes.

Sanwei Study Hall and Baicao Garden do not share an entrance; streets and waterways separate the two sights. Check the signs before setting out and follow the scenic-area route. Strollers and large luggage are harder to manage at narrow doors and steps.

Reservations and closure days

The scenic area is normally closed on Mondays, except for statutory holidays. Avoid that day or confirm the arrangement before travelling. If your reserved time no longer works, you can cancel and make a new reservation through the relevant WeChat account, but you still need the ID document used for the reservation at entry.

Cultural products and nearby visits

There are many cultural-product shops, so complete Sanwei Study Hall and the core Lu Xun Native Place visit first, then shop if needed. Shen Garden is about a 5-10-minute walk away, but its daytime and nighttime visits have their own tickets and entry periods and should be planned separately.
