Choose your visit

Shenyang History Exhibition on the second floor

The “Shenyang History Exhibition” on the second floor has three sections: “Origins of Shenyang,” “Heaven's Favor in Shengjing” and “Modern Upheavals.” It traces the city's history from Xinle culture and the Liao and Jin periods through early Qing Shengjing and the modern era. Key objects include a Liao dynasty gold mask and a white-glazed plum vase with black decoration.

If you have limited time, walk through the three history galleries first, then return to the objects that interest you. The gold mask's facial features and eyelashes are finely rendered; a closer look reveals the carving details.

Special exhibitions on the first and third floors

The first floor has exhibitions on Qing imperial furniture and snuff bottles, while the third floor mainly displays blue-and-white porcelain from Ming and Qing private kilns. Choose how long to stay based on your interest in Liao artifacts, court life or ceramics.

Atrium design

The atrium dome echoes the “Twelve Double Hours” design on the floor, making it a notable architectural detail. Exhibits may change temporarily; check the labels and gallery notices.

For a separate visit focused on provincial art and archaeology, see Liaoning Provincial Museum.

Build your day

Visit by floor

Start on the second floor with the Shenyang History Exhibition, then visit Qing furniture and snuff bottles on the first floor, and finish with Ming and Qing blue-and-white porcelain on the third. Allow about 1.5–2 hours for the 2 → 1 → 3 floor sequence, then follow the museum signs to leave.

Prioritize key objects

Walk through the three history galleries on the second floor to get an overview of Shenyang's development, then focus on the Liao gold mask and white-glazed plum vase with black decoration. Add the Qing furniture on the first floor or the blue-and-white porcelain exhibition on the third according to your interests.

Get there

Metro

Take Metro Line 2 to People's Square (人民广场) Station and walk about 1 minute from Exit C2. Map and station information may still use the former name, Shifu Square (市府广场) Station; both names refer to the same stop.

Food and nearby breaks

For food or a break after your visit, head toward Forum 66 (市府恒隆广场), a shopping complex near People's Square. For local snacks, explore Xiguan Food Street (西关美食街) and try local specialties such as open-topped stuffed pies (开口馅饼) and huitou (回头), a pan-fried stuffed pastry.
