Open district and entrances
Fangcheng and Zhongjie consist of streets, shopping areas and historic sites, with no single perimeter wall or ticket gate. You can enter on foot from the surrounding streets. Exit B1 at Zhongjie (中街) Station on Metro Line 1 brings you to the central part of the pedestrian street. The district is free to explore; shops and venues keep their own hours.
Tickets and area covered
Venues such as Shenyang Imperial Palace and Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence have separate entrances and reservation times. You can buy single-venue tickets or a three-venue ticket for the Imperial Palace, the former residence and the Shenyang Financial Museum; paid special exhibitions are excluded. Liu Laogen Grand Stage requires a separate show ticket, so plan an evening visit around its performance time.

Longstanding shops and lane snacks
The main commercial street on Zhongjie has long-established businesses such as Laobian Dumplings (老边饺子), Li Lian Gui Smoked Meat Pancakes (李连贵熏肉大饼) and Zhongjie Ice Cream (中街冰点). For snacks, explore Toutiao Lane (头条胡同); Guanjuzi Lane (官局子胡同) is another lane to visit. Which shops are open depends on the day.
Photo stops around the district
The Zhongjie archway (中街牌坊) and lane lighting are easy stops during a walk. For photos, add the “Shenyang” wall near Palace 66 (皇城恒隆广场) and the smile wall near the Hanwang Palace ruins (汗王宫遗址). Street displays may change for events.
Historic sites
Zhongxin Temple (中心庙) and Chang'an Temple (长安寺) are historic buildings within the district; Dadong Food Market (大东副食) is a nearby local market. Opening arrangements vary, so check separately if you want to go inside.
For another historic building nearby, see Northeast China Governor-General's Office.
Build your day
Walk along Zhongjie
Start at Exit B1 of Zhongjie Station and walk along Zhongjie Pedestrian Street to see the old shops and commercial buildings on both sides. Visit Toutiao Lane and Guanjuzi Lane if they interest you. If you want more photo stops, add the “Shenyang” wall near Palace 66 and the smile wall near the Hanwang Palace ruins. Allow about 2–3 hours for the walk; adjust the order to your location on the day.
Food and return trip
Laobian Dumplings or Li Lian Gui Smoked Meat Pancakes are options before or after the walk, and Minghu Chun Restaurant (明湖春饭店) is another local choice. When you finish, return to Zhongjie Station based on your location or take a taxi from a nearby road.
Get there
Metro and bus
Metro Line 1 serves Zhongjie (中街) Station and the pedestrian street. You can also take Line 2 to Qingnian Dajie (青年大街) Station and transfer. Huanlu (环路) and Bus 117, among others, stop at Zhongjie (中街) or Dadongmen (大东门); choose a stop closer to your starting point.
Driving
Parking is limited in the Zhongjie core, and unofficial roadside parking charges are a risk. Public transport is preferable. If you drive, check the location and fees of a licensed car park on a map before walking into the district.
Know before you go
Shop and evening hours
The district's streets are open for walking throughout the day, but restaurants, shops and historic venues have their own opening hours. Night lighting, screen content and street displays may change with events; there is no fixed daily lighting or performance schedule to rely on.
Food and walking
Some chain snacks on the main street can be expensive. Longstanding businesses such as Laobian Dumplings and Li Lian Gui Smoked Meat Pancakes are also meal options. Check a map for which shops in Toutiao Lane and Guanjuzi Lane are open.
The district covers several sites on foot, so wear comfortable shoes and take a break at a restaurant or shopping center along the way.
