Address, site layout and entrance

Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence is at No. 46 Shaoshuaifu Lane, Chaoyang Street, Shenhe District, Shenyang. Search for “张学良旧居陈列馆” or “张氏帅府博物馆” in your map app. There is one entrance. Inside are three successive courtyard sections, the Big Green Building (Da Qing Lou) and the Small Green Building (Xiao Qing Lou); Zhao Yidi's Former Residence is outside the main compound. Whether the Shenyang Financial Museum is included depends on your ticket.

Tickets and visiting hours

A three-venue ticket currently covers Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence, Shenyang Imperial Palace and the Shenyang Financial Museum. The reference price is RMB 88 for adults and RMB 44 for eligible visitors; paid special exhibitions are excluded. It is sold online through authorized channels such as Tongcheng, Ctrip and Meituan. Visitors seeing only the residence can look for a single-venue ticket. If you also plan to visit the Shenyang Financial Museum, compare any currently available residence-and-museum combination ticket with the three-venue ticket. The notice specifies real-name checks against Chinese ID cards; visitors using foreign passports should confirm before payment whether their ticket supports passport purchase and entry verification. Traditional courtyards and two historic buildings

The courtyards feature traditional hanging-flower gates (垂花门) and intricate wooden carvings, offering an introduction to the mansion's earliest layout.

The Big Green Building was an important place where Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang handled affairs in Northeast China. The Tiger Hall in its northeast corner on the first floor is named for the tiger specimen displayed there. It was also the site of the 1929 killings of Yang Yuting and Chang Yinhuai.

Domestic life and financial history

The two-storey Small Green Building combines Chinese and Western architectural styles and once housed Zhang Zuolin's family. Zhao Yidi's Former Residence, outside the main compound, is a small French-style villa. The Shenyang Financial Museum is housed in the former Bianye Bank (边业银行) building, where visitors can see recreated banking scenes and an underground vault.

Who may enjoy it

Visitors interested in Republican-era history in Northeast China, modern architecture or the Zhang family can focus on the courtyards and the Big Green Building. Add the Shenyang Financial Museum if banking history or the former bank building interests you.

Build your day

Follow the courtyard sequence

Enter through the gate and walk through the three courtyard sections, then visit the Big Green Building and its first-floor Tiger Hall, followed by the Small Green Building. Allow about 2–3 hours for this route through the main compound. Holiday queues can reduce time inside the exhibition halls.

Continue after leaving the main compound

Zhao Yidi's Former Residence is outside the main compound's ticket gate, about a 2-minute walk away. You cannot re-enter the main compound after leaving, so finish the indoor areas before exiting. If your ticket includes the Shenyang Financial Museum, continue to the neighboring former Bianye Bank building.

Get there

Public transport

Take Shenyang Metro Line 1 to Zhongjie (中街) or Huaiyuanmen (怀远门) Station, then walk about 10 minutes. Buses 117, 118 and 132 stop at 大南门 (Da Nan Men) or 大南街 (Da Nan Jie); walk from there to the only entrance.

Driving and nearby walks

Parking near the residence is limited, so public transport is preferable. Shenyang Imperial Palace is about 700 meters away, or a 10-minute walk; Zhongjie Pedestrian Street is about 900 meters away and can be visited before or after the residence.

Know before you go

Queues, indoor temperature and interpretation

Crowds are heavier on public holidays and during school breaks. The Big Green Building and other halls may have queues of more than 30 minutes. The Big Green Building has no air conditioning and can feel hot in summer; some rooms are dim, so watch your footing while walking or taking photos. Tour commentary outside the site varies in quality; consider the museum's audio guide or read about the exhibitions in advance.

Food and access considerations

Laosiji (老四季, Marshal's Mansion branch) is about 227 meters away, Wanghouyuan Dumplings (王厚元饺子, Imperial Palace branch) about 643 meters, and Zhongjie Diao Lu Bing Egg Cake Snack Shop (中街吊炉饼鸡蛋糕小吃部) about 486 meters. Visitors buying tickets with a passport should confirm the real-name purchase and entry-verification process in advance. The Big Green Building is a historic structure; visitors with limited mobility can ask the museum which floors and routes are accessible.
