Courtyard and architectural details

The courtyard has a century-old locust tree. The exterior features 11 dragon designs, the door decorations show clouds and a moon, and the interior has carved corridors. As you walk through the courtyard, notice the contrast between the old tree and the building's blend of Chinese and Western styles.

The gray-brick exterior has European-style decoration, while the interior uses a timber structure. Look for these architectural details from the late Qing and early Republican periods.

Period settings and exhibitions

The building has historical room recreations and special exhibitions. Look for the layout and furnishings from the late Qing and early Republican periods. The calligraphy displays and temporary exhibitions on the second floor may change according to the exhibition schedule. The central spiral staircase, carved corridors and exterior are also key sights.

Central spiral staircase

The European-style spiral staircase in the center of the building is a notable photo spot. From below, you can see its depth and turns. Access to upper floors and photography locations depends on the areas open that day and on-site rules.

For nearby historic sites and pedestrian streets, see Shenyang Fangcheng Historic District.

Build your day

From the courtyard to the second floor

Enter from Shengjing Road and visit the courtyard, then see the first-floor room recreations, the central staircase and finally the second-floor calligraphy or temporary exhibitions. Allow about 30–60 minutes for a full circuit, depending on which galleries are open and how long you stay. Return to the entrance through the open passageways.

Combine with the palace and former residence

Shenyang Imperial Palace and Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence are nearby and can be visited on the same day as the Governor-General's Office. The official RMB 88 three-venue ticket covers the Imperial Palace, the former residence and the Shenyang Financial Museum; it does not include the Governor-General's Office. Buy a separate ticket for the Governor-General's Office.

Get there

Metro and driving

Take Metro Line 1 to Zhongjie (中街) or Huaiyuanmen (怀远门) Station, then walk about 10 minutes to the Shengjing Road entrance. Parking nearby is limited. Shengjing Car Park (盛京停车场) is one option; check its current fee and availability on site.

Walking and food

After your visit, walk to the Zhongjie shopping area for a meal. Laobian Dumplings (老边饺子) and Zhongjie Ice Cream (中街冰点) are nearby options. Use a map to locate a branch that is open.

Short visit and access

A 30–60-minute visit can fit on the same day as Shenyang Imperial Palace or Zhang Xueliang's Former Residence. Access to the staircase and second-floor galleries, as well as photography areas, depends on the day's arrangements. If driving, check whether Shengjing Car Park has space; nearby government or attraction courtyards are not a dependable parking option.

The building has several floors. Visitors with limited mobility can contact the venue in advance about floor access and accessible routes.
