Plan at a glance
Two trail areas, two kinds of mountain visit
Tuoliang Scenic Area is in Qiandadi Village, Hehekou Township, Pingshan County. The visitor centre handles tickets, parking and transport within the scenic area. The cable car serves part of the Sandiequan (三叠泉) side; Baipuxia (百瀑峡) is mainly a hiking route. The cable car covers only part of the mountain on the Sandiequan side, so you will still need to walk between Yunding Grassland, Camel Peak and the gorge trails. Do not rely on supplies once you start down through Baipuxia.
Admission, cable car and opening hours
Adult admission is RMB 65. Visitors aged 6–18, visitors aged 60 or over and students pay half price. The cable car costs RMB 50 one way or RMB 90 round trip. Shuttle buses from the visitor centre cost about RMB 10 toward Sandiequan and RMB 5 toward Baipuxia. Opening and cable-car hours change with the season and weather; check the day’s notice and last departure before setting out.
How long to spend
A cable-car round trip with a visit to Yunding Grassland takes about 3–4 hours. Longer hikes take more time. Sandiequan-up/Baipuxia-down is a point-to-point route with different entry and exit areas. Before setting out, ask at the visitor centre about that day’s return shuttle and its last departure; if you cannot confirm the connection, use the Sandiequan out-and-back route instead. The cable car may have queues on weekends and holidays, so check its last service as well.

Choose your visit
Yunding Grassland and Camel Peak
Yunding Grassland sits above 2,000 metres and has more wildflowers from June to August. Camel Peak reaches 2,281 metres; in clear weather, you can see the mountains along the Hebei–Shanxi border and a sea of clouds. Afternoon light is softer over the grassland. Early mornings and the period after rain are better times to look for cloud cover around Camel Peak.
Sandiequan and Baipuxia
Waterfalls and pools follow the stream at Sandiequan. There may be limited supplies at the entrance, cable-car station and summit, making this side easier to combine with the cable car. Baipuxia is a wooded downhill trail with wet, slippery stone steps in places and weak mobile signal. Once you start down this section, do not count on finding food or drink along the way.
Who will enjoy it
Experienced walkers who enjoy alpine meadows and stream valleys can take the longer trails. Families and visitors who want to limit the climb can ride the cable car on the Sandiequan side. The cable car does not reach every attraction; walking is still required on the summit and between nearby stops. Visitors with knee problems or a fear of slippery paths should keep the hike short.
For a separate history visit elsewhere in Pingshan County, see Xibaipo Memorial Museum.
Build your day
A 3–4-hour cable-car route
From the visitor centre, take the shuttle to the Sandiequan side, then ride the cable car uphill. Walk around Yunding Grassland and the nearby viewpoints, return to the cable-car station, and take the shuttle back to your starting area. This cuts out much of the climb, but there is still walking at the top. Families with older adults or children should choose a distance that everyone can manage.
A 5–6-hour one-way crossing
If you plan to ride up at Sandiequan and descend through Baipuxia, confirm at the visitor centre how to get from the Baipuxia exit to the visitor centre, Sandiequan entrance or your car park, and ask for the last shuttle time. If you cannot confirm the return connection, take the Sandiequan out-and-back route. Supplies are limited on the Baipuxia descent, so carry enough water.
Parking and access between trail areas
Drive first to the Tuoliang Scenic Area Visitor Centre car park. Access to Car Park No. 2 near the Sandiequan entrance depends on the day’s road controls and staff instructions; it costs about RMB 10 per day. If you need to take a shuttle from the visitor centre, confirm your destination, return stop and last departure when buying the ticket.
Get there
Driving
From central Shijiazhuang, follow the Xibaipo Expressway, Jingkun Expressway and provincial roads to Tuoliang; the drive takes about 2–2.5 hours. Mountain roads continue after leaving the expressway and have narrow, sharp turns. Navigate first to “Tuoliang Scenic Area Visitor Centre,” not directly to the Sandiequan entrance or Car Park No. 2. Follow police and scenic-area staff directions if roads are restricted.
Tourist coach and rideshare
Check the “Shijiazhuang Smart Bus” mini program for the tourist coach. Whether it runs, minimum group size, fare and return time depend on the booking page. Rideshare fares vary by pick-up point and road conditions, and it may be hard to find a car for the return trip from the mountains. Confirm the driver’s waiting time, return availability and total fare before leaving.
Know before you go
Supplies, signal and offline maps
There may be limited supplies at the Sandiequan entrance, cable-car station or summit; availability depends on the day’s operations. Do not rely on food or drink once you enter the Baipuxia descent. Mobile signal is weak in some areas, so download an offline map and bring enough water and a small amount of food. Stone steps become slippery when wet; slow down.
Fitness, knees and cable-car queues
The downhill trail has many steps and can strain the knees. Sandiequan-up/Baipuxia-down is a demanding walk, and you need to arrange transport between the two ends. Cable-car queues can build on weekends and holidays. Its last departure or suspension may come before the scenic area closes, so confirm the day’s operating times in advance.
Season and nearby accommodation
Summer temperatures average about 19–23°C. Golden globeflowers (金莲花) are most concentrated from late June to July, and alpine meadows and wildflowers are in season from June to August. For an overnight stay, consider Fuchunyuan Guesthouse in Paoquanchang Village or Kaiyao Hotel near the visitor centre, where Hongzao Tie Bingzi (red-date corn cakes) are served. Allow extra driving time if combining the return trip with Xibaipo, Tianguishan or Black Mountain Grand Canyon.
