Opening and entrances

Fengqiao Scenic Area is at the end of Fengqiao Road in Gusu District. The main entrance is the East Gate near the Poetry Stele Garden, and visitors can also enter through the West Gate beside Hanshan Temple. Admission is free, with usual daily hours of 06:30–24:00 and last entry at 23:30; allow 30–45 minutes for a short route or 1.5–2 hours for a fuller walk.

What the area covers

The main sights are Tieling Pass, Fengqiao Bridge, Jiangcun Bridge, the Grand Canal and the poetry stele area. The evening walk along the water feels different from seeing the bridges in daylight, but Fengqiao remains a separate visit from Hanshan Temple, with no temple ticket required for the scenic area.

Choose your visit

Bridges, pass and canal

Fengqiao brings together Hanshan Temple, Jiangfeng Ancient Bridge, Tieling Ancient Pass, the historic Fengqiao town area and the Grand Canal in one walkable setting. It suits visitors drawn to Tang-poetry imagery, bridges and water-town streets; Tieling Pass, the Fengqiao connection and the views from Jiangcun Bridge are the main visual anchors, with the Bell Garden and China Poetry Stele Garden adding context.

Who it suits

Visitors who want a quick look at the bridges and canal can enter through either the East or West Gate and follow the short route. Those interested in the old-town setting should allow more time to cross Jiangcun Bridge; dusk is good for river lights and rowing boats, but services gradually reduce at night, so a very late solo stay is not suitable.

Build your day

A 30–45 minute route

Enter through the East Gate or the West Gate beside Hanshan Temple, walk to Tieling Pass, climb the wall for views of Fengqiao and the Grand Canal, then go to the Stone Stele of “Mooring at Night by Maple Bridge” and the statue of Zhang Ji before returning along the canal path. This short route focuses on the bridge, pass and poetry stele rather than the deeper old-town streets.

A 1.5–2 hour route

Enter through the East Gate to see the Bell Garden and China Poetry Stele Garden, walk along the historic Fengqiao streets, cross Jiangcun Bridge to the opposite bank, then view Fengqiao and Tieling Pass at closer range before returning along the Grand Canal. If you are coming from Hanshan Temple, visit the temple first and use Fengqiao's canal path as the second part of the day.

Get there

Metro shuttle and buses

Take Metro Line 1 to Xihuan Road Station (西环路), Exit 4, then transfer to Community Bus 9002 or the Hanshan Temple shuttle to the scenic area and ticket-office area. Bus routes 33, 44, 301 and Tour 3 stop at Heshanqiao or Hanshan Temple, followed by a walk.

Driving and entrance choice

Traffic around Fengqiao can be heavy during holidays, while parking availability and charges vary. If you must drive, try Heshan Road RT-Mart parking lot and walk about 10 minutes; if transferring from Hanshan Temple, confirm whether the West Gate is suitable as the day's entrance.

Know before you go

Late-night lighting and services

The scenic area may remain open late, but lighting, shops, convenience stores and riverfront services do not necessarily continue until 24:00. After 22:30, some lights are gradually turned off, so complete the main route while lighting and foot traffic are still present and arrange your return in advance.

Spending and combined visits

Food, boats and other services around the scenic area are sold separately, so you do not need to accept unsolicited offers from nearby businesses. Fengqiao can be combined with Hanshan Temple, Lingering Garden or Xiyuan Temple, but each has its own ticket, opening time and return arrangements.
