Free admission and opening hours
Suzhou Museum's main building is at 204 Northeast Street in Gusu District. Admission is free, but a real-name reservation is required through the Suzhou Museum reservation mini-program or WeChat account; regular hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:00, and Monday closed. Holiday arrangements may differ, and summer hours from July 1 to August 30, 2026, extend to 20:00.
Entrance and visit scope
The entrance is on Northeast Street, and the main museum exit connects to Zhongwang Mansion, so both can be visited in one outing. Allow 1–2 hours for a first visit, including reservation checks, entry procedures and the movement between the two areas.

Architecture, courtyards and exhibitions
Suzhou Museum suits visitors who want to combine architecture and exhibitions: the stone garden in the main courtyard, geometric windows, and the structure and light in the central hall form one line of interest, while the collection focuses on Ming- and Qing-period paintings and traditional crafts. Exhibits change with the exhibition schedule, so what you see depends on the galleries open that day; do not plan around one specific object being on display.
Who it suits
Visitors interested in architecture, art and Suzhou history can follow the full route, while those saving time for gardens can focus on the main courtyard and principal galleries. The internal route is relatively level and suits a range of ages, but the reservation time and entry rules still come first.
Build your day
A 1-hour route
Enter from Northeast Street, visit the west gallery, then continue through the main courtyard and east gallery before following the exit passage into Zhongwang Mansion and leaving. This order covers the main architectural courtyard, exhibition galleries and connected historic building in a shorter visit.
A 1.5–2 hour route
Start at the central hall, then visit the west gallery, central courtyard, east gallery and modern art gallery before entering Zhongwang Mansion through the exit passage. See the historic stage and old tree in the courtyard, adjusting the order to the areas open that day rather than leaving Zhongwang Mansion until the reservation window is nearly over.
Get there
Metro and walking
Take Metro Line 6 to Zhuozhengyuan-Suzhou Museum Station (拙政园苏博), Exit 1 or 2, then walk about 3–5 minutes. Northeast Street is narrow, so public transport is more practical when combining the museum with Humble Administrator's Garden and Lion Grove Garden.
Driving
Parking around the museum is tight during holidays and can be expensive. Drivers should park at a confirmed lot outside the old-city streets, then walk or use public transport to reach the Northeast Street area.
Know before you go
Reservation window
Free slots on popular dates require preparation, and visitors should enter within 30 minutes before or after the reserved time; a ticket may not be usable outside that window. Monday is normally closed, and summer extension changes the opening hours but does not replace the real-name reservation requirement.
Services inside the museum
If you want more context about the exhibitions, ask the service desk about official guided commentary after entering. Some museum restrooms have limited space, so using one before entry may be easier; after leaving, you can walk to Humble Administrator's Garden, Lion Grove Garden or Pingjiang Road.
