Visitor centre and town area

Tongli Ancient Town is in Tongli Town, Wujiang District, Suzhou. Most visitors enter through the northern Visitor Centre, which has ticketing, information and restrooms. The compact core is best explored on foot, while rowing boats offer a water-lane experience; the Visitor Centre, entrance ticket, internal gardens and the boat to Luoxingzhou follow separate arrangements.

Tickets and opening hours

The town uses an admission-ticket system, and the online price and real-name reservation rules should be confirmed through the official Tongli Tourism WeChat account or the ticket office for the day. The streets can be walked all day, but internal gardens such as Tuisi Garden usually open around 08:00–17:00, so their own hours still govern the visit.

Choose your visit

Tuisi Garden, Three Bridges and old residences

Tuisi Garden, Taiping Bridge, Geely Bridge and Changqing Bridge are the main first-visit sights, while riverside residences and water lanes provide a slower walking rhythm. Visitors interested in gardens and historic buildings can add Pearl Pagoda Garden, Jiayin Hall and Chongben Hall; those who want time on the water can choose a rowing boat or continue to Luoxingzhou separately.

Who it suits

Tongli suits visitors who want to spend half a day in a water town while observing its gardens and local residential spaces. The central town is walkable, but Luoxingzhou requires a boat, and the connection between the metro station and the Visitor Centre requires a bus or taxi, so do not estimate the day from the metro location alone.

Build your day

A 2–3 hour route

Enter through the Visitor Centre, visit Tuisi Garden first, then walk to the Three Bridges and continue through Pearl Pagoda Garden, Jiayin Hall and Chongben Hall before returning along the water lanes. This sequence connects the main gardens and bridges in a manageable half-day route.

A 4–5 hour route

Add Gengletang and Luoxingzhou to the route above, allowing time for the boat schedule to Luoxingzhou. The riverside stone seats or Nanyuan Teahouse can be used for a break, but leave room for queues at gardens, boats and food rather than compressing the return journey.

Get there

Metro and Visitor Centre

Take Metro Line 4 to Tongli Station, the terminal station, but note that the metro station is not the ancient town Visitor Centre; transfer by bus or taxi after leaving the station. From Suzhou Railway Station or Suzhou North Railway Station, you can first connect to Line 4 and then arrange the final transfer.

Driving and movement inside

Drivers can navigate to Tongli Ancient Town Visitor Centre Parking Lot, then walk through the town. Rowing boats depart from designated wharves; confirm the boat route and walking direction back to the Visitor Centre or parking lot, because the boat is a water experience rather than a shuttle between every attraction.

Know before you go

Ticket boundaries

The main town ticket, internal gardens such as Tuisi Garden and the boat to Luoxingzhou may be handled separately, so confirm what is included before paying. All-day access to the streets does not mean that internal gardens stay open all day; late arrivals should visit the gardens with clear closing times first.

Quiet periods and spending

Weekdays are usually better for walking than weekends and statutory holidays, while food inside the scenic area may cost more than food outside. Confirm the unit price before ordering and use regular buses, taxis or ride-hailing services rather than accepting roadside low-price entry or unlicensed-car offers.
