Plan at a glance
Red rock and Buddhist/Daoist culture
Chicheng Mountain is in Chicheng Subdistrict, Tiantai County, Taizhou. It is one of the more manageable short climbs in the Tiantai area, with red rock, Purple Cloud Cave, Jigong East Courtyard, Yuijing Cave, and Liangfei Pagoda among the main sights. Individual caves, courtyards, towers, and upper paths may close for repairs or management changes.
Allow about half a day, possibly combined with Jigong Former Residence or Zhexi Old Street in Tiantai town. Chicheng Mountain is a separate stop from the Waterfall and Huading, with its own entrance and vehicle plan.
Fitness and time
The lower route includes gentle slopes, stone steps, and short climbs. Continuing to Liangfei Pagoda or a higher point adds more effort and sun exposure. Use the day's opening and last-entry information as your timing anchor. If you start in the afternoon, leave enough daylight for the descent.
Tickets, cave access, repair areas, and religious or cultural spaces may be handled separately. Do not base the whole mountain route on one free-entry experience or on a partly open section.

Red rock and the mountain view
The red rock and views toward Tiantai town are the most accessible natural features for a first visit. In clear weather, the open stone steps show how the rock color and town view change as you climb. After rain, the rock may be slippery, so keep the footing in mind when stopping for photos.
Jigong East Courtyard
Jigong East Courtyard is a cultural building on the mountain. It suits visitors interested in Jigong stories and the site's modern architectural interpretation. It is one stop on the mountain, not a substitute for the separate Jigong Former Residence page.
Purple Cloud Cave, Yuijing Cave, and Liangfei Pagoda
These are separate points along the higher route. Whether you can enter a cave or climb a tower depends on the day's open areas. Visitors with limited fitness or who are uncomfortable with narrow, steep stairs can view the caves and pagoda from outside rather than continuing to the highest point.
Build your day
A short mountain walk
Enter through the foot-of-the-mountain gate or the entrance open that day. Walk toward the mountain gate, Purple Cloud Cave, and Jigong East Courtyard, then turn back at a confirmed viewpoint. This suits visitors with limited time, children, or anyone combining Chicheng Mountain with other town attractions.
If you meet repair barriers, a closed cave, or a changed route, return to the main path as directed. Do not enter an unopened mountain trail to replace a sight that is closed.
Extending to the higher points
With good fitness and stable weather, continue from Jigong East Courtyard toward Wuyue Tower, Yuijing Cave, or Liangfei Pagoda. Upper paths may have little shade and steeper steps, and the return takes longer than the ascent may suggest. Set the day's turning point before you start.
If you are visiting for late light or the town view, start down while there is still enough daylight. Night lighting and access on the mountain are not fixed, so a night climb should not be treated as the normal route.
Combining it with town stops
After descending, you can visit Zhexi Old Street or Jigong Former Residence as a separate stop. The places require walking, a taxi, or a new parking arrangement. Confirm where the car is before continuing; the Chicheng exit and the next attraction entrance are different places.
Get there
From Tiantai Mountain Station
From Tiantai Mountain Station, take a taxi to the foot of Chicheng Mountain. Tiantai town buses may also reach nearby stops. Tell the driver “Chicheng Mountain main gate” or the foot-of-the-mountain memorial arch rather than a general mountain name.
Driving and parking
Navigate to the parking area at the foot of Chicheng Mountain. Parking areas, fees, and vehicle controls may change. After parking, note the return direction and final exit. If you also plan to visit Jigong Former Residence or the old street, arrange the car and walking sections separately.
Moving inside the mountain
Chicheng Mountain is mainly explored on foot. Caves, courtyards, and higher points are connected by stone steps and slopes. Check the day's open-area map and repair notices before entering, then choose a turning point that matches your fitness. A short map distance may still include continuous steps.
Know before you go
Repairs and open areas
Yuijing Cave, Jigong West Courtyard, the inside of Liangfei Pagoda, or other upper facilities may be under repair or temporarily closed. Skip closed areas. Do not enter before a gate opens or stay on the mountain after closing while waiting for access to return.
Sun, water, and steps
Higher paths have limited shade and supplies are not available continuously. Carry enough water, sun protection, and shoes with good grip. After rain, during a thunderstorm, or when the rock is visibly wet, take the short route or end the visit.
Descend in time
Opening hours, last entry, and the closing times of individual points may differ. Whichever higher sight you choose, turn back early enough to reach the foot of the mountain in daylight and within the open period. Do not stay on an unlit or closed path for sunset photos.
