Plan at a glance

Choose an area before planning the day

Tiantai Mountain Scenic Area is in Tiantai County, Taizhou, Zhejiang. It works as an orientation page for a Tiantai trip. Guoqing Scenic Area, the Waterfall and Qiongtai Fairy Valley area, Shiliang Waterfall, Huading National Forest Park, and Chicheng Mountain are in different locations, with separate entrances, parking arrangements, and walking patterns. There is no single gate from which you can walk through all of them.

For a first visit, choose one main area by interest. Guoqing is for temples, pagodas, and local history. The Waterfall and Qiongtai Fairy Valley area is for waterfalls, gorges, and mountain paths. Huading is more about forest and seasonal scenery, while Chicheng Mountain suits a shorter cultural walk in the hills. Travel between these areas requires a vehicle, so do not calculate the transfers as if they were paths inside one park.

How much time to allow

One area usually needs half a day. If you combine Guoqing with the Waterfall area, include the time needed for driving, parking, shuttles, and entry. Huading or Chicheng Mountain is better added on a second day, with room for weather and the return journey.

Each attraction handles tickets, combination products, opening periods, shuttles, and extra facilities separately. Use the ticket information for the specific attraction you plan to visit. A ticket for one attraction covers only that attraction's visit area.

Choose your visit

Guoqing: temples and Tiantai Buddhist culture

Guoqing Scenic Area suits visitors interested in temple buildings, Buddhist history, old trees, and quiet walks. Guoqing Temple, the Sui Pagoda, the Sui Plum, streams, and temple courtyards form a mainly cultural stop. Take time to look at the buildings and details rather than trying to combine them with the waterfall and gorge scenery in one objective.

Guoqing is usually easier to plan as a short stop with a clear return for people who do not want long climbs, glass bridges, or wet paths. Temple visits also require appropriate clothing, careful photography, and respect for the site.

The Waterfall area: water and mountain paths

Tiantai Mountain Waterfall Scenic Area is centered on the nine-tier waterfall, Water Curtain Cave, and paths alongside the falls. Qiongtai Fairy Valley focuses on the gorge, Baxian Lake, Lingbo Walkway, and high views around Huixian Bridge. The two can be combined, but they still have separate entrances, ticket products, and physical demands.

Visitors who want spray, waterfall views, and high gorge scenery can make them a half-day or full-day focus. If anyone in your group is uncomfortable with heights, has knee problems, or does not want to walk wet steps after rain, visiting the main waterfall section on its own is the safer choice.

Huading, Chicheng Mountain, and other mountain stops

Huading National Forest Park and Chicheng Mountain are not extensions of the Waterfall area. Huading is shaped by the season, weather, and mountain-road access. Chicheng Mountain suits a shorter walk among red-rock scenery and cultural sites. Check the entrance, vehicle route, and open areas separately before adding either one.

Build your day

Half a day: choose one main area

When time is limited, choose the day's main area first and only then decide whether to add a nearby stop. Around Guoqing, you can walk between the temple and pagoda. Around the Waterfall, you can visit the falls alone or add Qiongtai Fairy Valley if your time, fitness, and the weather allow.

After reaching the first attraction, confirm the day's entrance, shuttle direction, and last entry time before adding another stop. Two attractions may look close on a map but still be unsuitable for walking between them. Waiting for a vehicle and parking again can take time.

One day: Guoqing and the Waterfall area

If you want to see both a temple and a waterfall in one day, visit Guoqing earlier and then travel to the Waterfall visitor center. Start the waterfall visit well before its last entry time, leaving room for the taxi, parking, and shuttle. If Guoqing takes longer than planned, a short visit to the main waterfall section in the afternoon is more practical than adding the full gorge route at the last minute.

Another option is to stay all day in the Waterfall and Qiongtai Fairy Valley area and reduce cross-area transfers. A route from a higher entrance toward the waterfall may reduce continuous climbing, but it still includes bridges, high paths, downhill sections, and wet surfaces. Decide whether to complete it based on the day's conditions and your group's energy.

Two days: separate the natural and cultural stops

Over two days, you can put Guoqing and cultural stops in Tiantai town on the first day, then choose the Waterfall, Qiongtai Fairy Valley, Huading, or Chicheng Mountain according to the weather on the second. This leaves room for shuttle changes, rain, or tired legs.

Each area needs its own route and return plan. Before ending each day, confirm the final exit, parking location, and vehicle arrangement. This matters especially when driving and finishing in a different area from where you started.

Get there

From Tiantai Mountain Station

High-speed trains stop at Tiantai Mountain Station. From the station, take a taxi or local transport to the day's target. Guoqing, the Waterfall visitor center, Shiliang Waterfall, Huading, and Chicheng Mountain are not the same destination. Give the driver the attraction and entrance name instead of saying only “Tiantai Mountain,” which may lead to the wrong area.

Driving and parking

When driving, navigate separately to the visitor center or parking area for your target attraction. Parking at the Waterfall visitor center applies to that area only. If you visit two areas in one day, allow time to collect the car, park again, and deal with road traffic.

Weekends, holidays, and rain can affect parking and vehicle access. Map distance alone is not a reliable transfer time, and a parking space at one attraction will not serve the whole day.

Between the Waterfall and Qiongtai Fairy Valley

The Waterfall and Qiongtai Fairy Valley are connected by shuttles and walking routes, but the upper and lower entrances serve different purposes. Before combining them, confirm which entrance the shuttle will use and where you will finish. Choosing the wrong direction can add a return walk and extra climbing.

Know before you go

Check tickets by attraction

Guoqing, the Waterfall, Qiongtai Fairy Valley, Huixian Bridge, the Tian Ladder or elevator, shuttles, and parking may be charged or managed separately. Combination products may cover different areas, and extra facilities may not be open every day. Confirm exactly which attractions and routes are included before buying.

Do not build the main plan around a temporary discount, a special time window, or an unconfirmed way through. Buy through the normal entrance and leave room to skip or shorten the second attraction.

Mountain surfaces and weather

Water spray, wet steps after rain, gorge walkways, and high bridges can all be slippery. Wear shoes with good grip and carry light rain protection. If there is a thunderstorm, very poor visibility, or standing water on the path, pause before exposed high sections. Do not cross barriers or look for a dangerous shortcut.

A rainbow, high water, mist, shuttle speed, or the opening of a particular facility cannot be guaranteed. Let the return time and on-site instructions determine how long you stop for photos.

Leave time for transfers

Tiantai is easier to visit by area than by chasing a list of attractions in one day. Set a clear finish time for each area and allow time to call a taxi, wait for a shuttle, and find your car. If mountain weather worsens, protect the return journey first and decide about the next attraction afterward.
