What this page covers

Tiantai Mountain Waterfall Scenic Area is in Tiantai County, Taizhou, Zhejiang. Its main entrance is the Tiantai Mountain Waterfall Visitor Center. The main sights are the nine-tier waterfall, Water Curtain Cave, and the viewing paths beside the falls. Qiongtai Fairy Valley is in the same mountain area, and the visitor center has shuttle connections to the two entrance areas.

The Waterfall and Qiongtai Fairy Valley can be planned together, but they are not one ticket, one entrance, or one uninterrupted park route. This page covers the waterfall section, walking, and the return plan. If you want the gorge, Huixian Bridge, and the longer connecting route, plan those through Qiongtai Fairy Valley's entrance and ticket arrangements.

Time and physical effort

Allow about 1.5–2 hours for the main waterfall section alone. Adding Qiongtai Fairy Valley, a high bridge, and the connecting path requires at least half a day. The waterfall route includes steps, slopes, viewing stops, and wet surfaces, so map distance alone does not show the effort involved.

Arrive in the morning if possible and confirm the day's last entry time. The Waterfall is a poor choice for a last-minute addition at the end of the day, especially when you still need a shuttle or a return to the parking area.

Choose your visit

The nine-tier waterfall

The nine-tier waterfall is the main reason most first-time visitors come. As you move along the paths and viewing areas, you see the water fall in separate levels. Views and spray change along the route, so it is better to stop as you go rather than rush straight to the highest point.

Water levels may rise after rain, and a rainbow is possible in bright weather, but water, mist, and light depend on the day. Stay on open paths and platforms when taking photos. Do not move outside the railings for a wider view.

Water Curtain Cave

Water Curtain Cave is in the rock area beside the falls. Inside, spray can be strong and clothing, camera equipment, and the ground may get wet. It suits visitors who are comfortable spending a short time in a damp area. If you do not want to get wet, or if you are travelling with a small child or someone unsteady on their feet, watch the falls from outside and turn back.

Who should combine it with Qiongtai

Visitors who can manage steps, downhill walking, wet paths, and high structures can combine the Waterfall with Qiongtai Fairy Valley. With older adults, small children, or anyone who is afraid of heights or has knee problems, the main waterfall section makes a complete visit. There is no need to add a glass bridge or a long connecting walk simply to cover both records.

Build your day

A short waterfall route

Enter at the Waterfall visitor center and follow the main path toward the viewing areas and Water Curtain Cave. Then decide whether to continue based on your energy, the weather, and the open paths. The short route is about the waterfall levels and the cave; you do not need to take every side path.

Follow the signs for the return or exit. Downhill sections, wet steps, and stopping to adjust clothing or equipment can slow you down. With children or older adults, leave time to rest before and after Water Curtain Cave.

Joining from Qiongtai Fairy Valley

If you start from Qiongtai Fairy Valley and walk toward the Waterfall, first confirm the shuttle drop-off point, what your ticket covers, and the final exit. The combined route may include Huixian Bridge, high walkways, connecting mountain paths, and a long downhill section. At the Waterfall exit, you still need a plan for the parking area or your vehicle.

This direction can reduce some continuous uphill walking, but it still requires energy. If it rains, a bridge closes, visibility drops, or someone in the group tires, switch to the short Qiongtai route or return to a confirmed shuttle point. Do not keep chasing the original route.

Plan the return before the last stop

Drivers should check the relationship between the Waterfall exit and the parking area before starting. Taxi and shuttle users should note the return pick-up point as soon as they enter. Finish a long route before the final shuttle or vehicle operating period; a last-minute taxi should not be your only return plan.

Get there

From Tiantai Mountain Station

After arriving at Tiantai Mountain Station by high-speed rail, take a taxi to the Tiantai Mountain Waterfall Visitor Center. The ride usually takes about 15–20 minutes. Say “Waterfall Visitor Center” rather than only “Tiantai Mountain,” because Tiantai County has several separate attractions.

Driving and parking

Drive directly to the Waterfall visitor center and its parking area. After parking, check the ticket gate, shuttle location, and which entrance is open that day before choosing the short waterfall route or the combined route. Holiday traffic and shuttle waits may be longer than usual.

Going to Qiongtai Fairy Valley

There are shuttle connections between the visitor center and Qiongtai Fairy Valley, but the upper and lower drop-off points may be separate. If you want to walk from Qiongtai toward the Waterfall, confirm the drop-off point before boarding. If you only want the Waterfall, there is no need to transfer just to look for a combined route.

Know before you go

What the ticket covers

The Waterfall, Qiongtai Fairy Valley, Huixian Bridge, and the Tian Ladder or elevator may be sold separately or in different combinations. A connected path does not mean every attraction is included in your current ticket. Confirm the attractions, bridges, and routes covered before buying.

Spray and slippery surfaces

Water Curtain Cave and the waterfall paths can be very wet. Carry a light rain jacket or water-resistant outer layer. Wear shoes with good grip and move slowly on walkways and steps. Do not run on wet surfaces, cross railings, or enter exposed high paths during a thunderstorm.

Conditions can change

Water levels, rainbows, shuttle speed, and the opening of the Tian Ladder or bridges can change with weather and operations. Do not delay your descent while waiting for a particular photo. A particular water level, mist effect, or facility opening is not a fixed condition for the day's route.
