Confirm the start and finish points

Jiuquxi Bamboo Rafting departs from Xingcun Wharf and finishes at Wuyi Palace Wharf. The route is about 9.5 km, and the downstream ride usually takes around 90 minutes. It is a one-way water journey: the start and finish are in different places, so self-drivers must decide how to return to the Xingcun side before boarding.

The raft is a separate core-area experience and normally needs its own ticket. The common single-raft price is about CNY 130 per person, while combined shuttle-and-raft products are often sold online. Tickets can be tight in busy periods, so confirm the reservation, departure slot, and ticket type before adding Tianyou Peak or another attraction.

Who it suits and how long to allow

The raft involves almost no climbing. It suits visitors who want to see the Danxia peaks and river scenery, families travelling with older adults or children, and anyone who does not want to spend the whole day climbing. With waiting, boarding transfers, Wuyi Palace, and Song Street, allow at least half a day; if you also want Tianyou Peak or Dahongpao, plan it as part of a full day.

The common operating window is about 6:30–15:30 from April to October and about 7:30–14:30 from November to March, with departures roughly every 30 minutes. Seasons, weather, and same-day operations can change, so do not plan the final raft only from a fixed timetable.

Choose your visit

The bends, Danxia peaks, and riverside traces

The raft passes through the river's many bends, with views of Yunu Peak, Dawang Peak, Tianyou Peak, and other mountains from the water. Around Liuqu and Yiqu, you may see cliff inscriptions; near Sanqu, suspended-coffin traces can be viewed from a distance. These are things to observe during the ride or hear about from the on-board arrangement, not guaranteed stopping points.

The water-level view is different from a mountain viewpoint. The raft is good for continuously seeing the river, reflections, and rock walls without a long walk. It does not replace the high view from Tianyou Peak, and it does not mean that you have completed the whole core scenic area.

Choose a pace that fits the group

Photographers may prefer an earlier departure to avoid the strongest midday light. Families with children or visitors who dislike heat can choose a later morning slot if one is available. Morning mist and the quality of reflections depend on the weather and should not be treated as ticket promises.

If someone in your group dislikes strong sun, a long period on the water, or water-based activities, keep the surrounding plan short and visit only the raft and Wuyi Palace. Visitors who want more walking can use the raft before or after a climb as a lower-effort section of the day.

Build your day

About two hours: the raft and Wuyi Palace

Arrive at Xingcun Wharf, take the raft, and spend about 90 minutes on the water. Get off at Wuyi Palace Wharf, walk through Wuyi Palace and Song Street, then leave by the bus, shuttle, or vehicle arrangement you confirmed in advance. This works well for a tight schedule or a group with limited fitness.

If you are driving, decide before boarding whether the vehicle will remain at the start or whether someone in the group will handle the pick-up. If your car stays at Xingcun, do not wait until you get off to start solving the return journey; finding the right transport after the visit can take time.

Half a day: the raft, Wuyi Palace, and nearby cultural stops

After a morning raft, continue through Wuyi Palace, Song Street, Guanyu Place, and Zhizhi Nunnery. Then decide whether to continue to Tianyou Peak or Dahongpao according to your fitness and the sightseeing-shuttle schedule. Queues and transfers may still take time even when the raft finishes early, so do not label every nearby point as a must-see.

Wuyi Palace is the practical finish of the raft route and is a natural first walking section after disembarking. If you plan to continue to Tianyou Peak, confirm the shuttle direction and the Tianyou entrance first; do not assume that Wuyi Palace and Tianyou Peak are directly connected by a simple walk.

One day: an early raft and Tianyou Peak

With an early departure, you can take the raft, visit Wuyi Palace, and transfer by sightseeing shuttle to Tianyou Peak. If your fitness and time allow, consider Dahongpao in the afternoon. This combination depends on the raft slot, waiting time, and path conditions, so it suits visitors who have some flexibility.

If Tianyou Peak is planned as a full climb, do not add several other long paths on top of it. The raft is one-way and Tianyou Peak has a front-ascent and rear-descent route, so any delay can affect the last core-area shuttle.

Get there

From the South Gate and resort area

After buying the sightseeing-shuttle product at the South Gate Visitor Centre, take the shuttle to the bamboo-raft wharf; the ride is about 15–20 minutes. Visitors staying in Sangu Resort can also take Bus 9 and get off around “Tianshanggong · Bamboo Raft Wharf,” then walk to the ticket checkpoint. Confirm the direction and return plan before boarding the bus.

Driving and the return journey

Drivers can navigate to the parking areas around Jiuquxi Bamboo Raft Wharf, but remember that Xingcun is the boarding point and Wuyi Palace is the landing point. The safer approach is to decide where the vehicle will stay first, then arrange Bus 9, the sightseeing shuttle, or a group transfer back to the start.

If you plan to combine the raft with Tianyou Peak or Dahongpao, confirm the return to your parking area before adding the later attractions. Do not assume that convenient transport near the finish will definitely take you back to Xingcun to collect the car.

Know before you go

Booking pressure and departure limits

During busy periods, raft tickets often need to be booked several days ahead. Planning around a booking window of about seven days is sensible. If the online inventory is sold out, do not make an on-site last-minute ticket find your main plan; change the date, departure, or product combination first, and keep alternative core-area stops ready.

The raft departure and operating window affect the whole day. After booking, confirm the ticket checkpoint, transfer time to the wharf, and the final return connection, rather than remembering only the departure time.

Sun, phones, and on-board arrangements

Much of the river section has little shade. A hat, sunglasses, sun-protective clothing, and drinking water are useful. Use a reliable strap or other protection for phones, cameras, and small bags; once something falls into the river, it is difficult to recover. Do not stand up repeatedly or change seats for photographs.

Whether commentary is available, whether it costs extra, how passengers are grouped, and what is covered can vary on the day. Do not describe commentary, a particular seat, morning mist, fish food, or shoe covers as fixed inclusions. If you want commentary, confirm the service and price before boarding.

Connections after the raft

Wuyi Palace, Song Street, and Guanyu Place fit naturally after the raft. If you continue to Tianyou Peak, Dahongpao, or an evening performance, recalculate the waiting, queues, walking, and return journey. When the raft ends close to the final core-area transport window, prioritise getting back safely instead of staying late for one more photograph.
