Plan at a glance
A daytime tea-culture walk
China Wuyi Tea Expo Garden is around Dawangfeng Road, close to the Jiuquxi River and Dawang Peak. The usual entrance is the main gate. The garden focuses on tea-history displays, tea-garden paths, and riverside walking, so it is mainly a flat, easy visit rather than a mountain hike.
The garden is currently planned as free to enter, with common daytime hours of 8:00–17:30. Whether any area opens at night and how much of it is accessible depends on the day's management. Allow about one hour for a quick visit and around two hours for a first visit. If you are also attending the evening performance, confirm the performance ticket and entry time separately.
Who it suits
The garden suits tea-culture visitors, families travelling with older adults, visitors who want a break from climbing, and anyone who wants an easy walk in Wuyishan. There are stone paths and tea-garden trails, so comfortable shoes are still necessary; “mostly flat” does not mean that the whole visit is indoors or effortless.
The garden and Impression Dahongpao are close, but they are not one ticket. Without a performance ticket, you can visit the garden during the day on its own. With a performance ticket, leave separate time for security checks, seating, and the return journey after the show.

Tea Soul Square and the Rock Tea History Corridor
Tea Soul Square is an open central area where visitors can start with the sculptures of historic tea figures and the overall layout of the garden. The Rock Tea History Corridor uses reliefs, small outdoor scenes, and displays to explain the history of Wuyi rock tea. It suits visitors who want local background without a long climb.
These areas are easier to enjoy in daylight and do not require repeated walking back and forth. If your group is less interested in displays, focus on the square, corridor, tea-garden path, and riverside section, then keep the rest of the day flexible.
Tea gardens, production displays, and the riverside path
The garden includes ecological tea fields and tea-making displays that connect the landscape with the production of rock tea. Whether you can see picking, tea-making demonstrations, tea ceremonies, or tasting depends on the day's schedule. These activities should not be treated as fixed parts of every visit.
The riverside path is a good choice for views of Chongyang Creek and Dawang Peak, and for a relaxed afternoon walk. Shade in the tea-garden sections can be limited in hot weather, so avoid the strongest midday sun and carry sun protection.
Build your day
About one hour: from Tea Soul Square to the tea garden
Enter through the main gate, visit Tea Soul Square, walk through the Rock Tea History Corridor, follow the tea-garden path for a short section, and return to the entrance. This route suits visitors with limited time or anyone who wants a quick overview before another activity.
If a display area or activity is temporarily closed, do not change the whole route just to fill the gap. The main visit does not depend on one performance or tasting session; complete the open squares, displays, tea fields, and paths instead.
About two hours: displays, tea-making, and the creek
First-time visitors can follow a flexible sequence through Tea Soul Square, the tea-utensil or history displays, the tea-making area, the ecological tea garden, and the riverside path. There is no need to hurry between sections; use the tea garden and creekside as rest points according to the group's energy.
Whether a tea ceremony or tasting is available depends on the day's schedule. If it is not running, you can still complete the displays and outdoor paths. Free tasting should not be described as an automatic right of entry.
Tea Expo Garden in the afternoon and the evening performance
If you already have a confirmed Impression Dahongpao ticket, visit the garden in the afternoon and walk or make a short transfer to the theatre before the stated entry time. The garden entrance, performance ticket, security check, and seating process are separate; being nearby does not remove the need to arrive on time.
After the performance, decide whether to walk, take a taxi, or return to your accommodation according to the actual conditions. Daytime access to the garden does not guarantee a fixed late-night connection after the show.
Get there
Bus, taxi, and walking
Take Wuyishan Bus 6 or 7 to Tea Expo Garden Stop, then walk about five minutes to the main gate. A taxi from Sangu Resort usually takes about ten minutes, although the fare and travel time vary with the starting point and traffic.
If you stay nearby, you can walk along the Chongyang Creek path for about 30 minutes. For a night-time trip to the theatre, confirm the lighting, the group's energy, and the return plan first; do not treat a daytime walking route as a guaranteed late-night connection.
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to the Tea Expo Garden parking area on Yinpingfeng Road or another nearby parking area, then walk to the entrance. On holidays, confirm where the car will remain before planning the connection between the garden and the performance, and avoid roadside lots where people solicit drivers.
If you are also visiting Wuyi Palace, Song Street, or the core scenic area, choose a parking position that works for the return journey and include the post-performance pick-up time in the plan.
Know before you go
Separate free admission from variable activities
The daytime garden visit can be planned as free entry, but the open areas, night-time activities, and temporary displays may change. Tea ceremonies, picking or tea-making sessions, free tastings, and evening walks should not be written as fixed inclusions.
If one activity is the main reason for your visit, confirm its time, location, and whether an extra charge applies after entering. Without that confirmation, plan around the square, corridor, tea garden, and path.
Tea purchases and sun protection
Tea shops in and around the garden may differ in price and quality. If you want to buy tea, taste it first, ask about the price and packaging, and decide afterwards. Do not change your route because someone promotes a tea factory or a “cheap” product.
The garden includes stone paths, tea-garden trails, and outdoor areas with strong daytime sun. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat, rain layer, and water. In the hottest part of the day, shorten the tea-garden walk if necessary.
Connecting with Impression Dahongpao
The garden and Impression Dahongpao can be visited on the same day, but their opening hours, tickets, and entry processes remain separate. Performance times, extra shows, seating areas, and dispersal transport may change. Do not assume that the two sites have a fixed combined ticket or a guaranteed walking arrangement.
