Plan at a glance
An outlying village, not part of the core ticket
Xiamei Ancient Village is in Xiamei Village, Wuyi Subdistrict, about 8–12 km from Wuyishan's core scenic area. The usual entrance is the Visitor Service Centre at the village entrance. It is an open village and historic-building walk, not part of the core sightseeing-shuttle network or the ticket arrangements for Wuyi Palace, the bamboo raft, or the core scenic area.
You can currently plan around free main admission, but the policy may change. If you want commentary, a boat ride, or another experience, confirm whether it is operating, the price, and the route at the village entrance. The usual hours are around 8:00–17:30; arriving before 17:00 is advisable because some areas may enter the residents' evening routine later in the day.
How much time to allow
A quick route takes about 1–1.5 hours and covers Zushi Bridge, the old wharf, Zou Dafu Residence, and a section along the stream. First-time visitors should allow 2–3 hours for the main homes, Dangxi River, and Chengshi Hermit's Residence. Tea-farmer activities, a rowing boat, or an overnight stay require separate confirmation and should not be treated as guaranteed parts of every visit.

Zou Dafu Residence and the historic homes
Zou Dafu Residence dates from the Qianlong period and combines northern Fujian timber construction with Huizhou-style fire walls. Its brick-carved entrance is one of the village's more representative details. The old homes are linked by stone lanes, so the village is better understood through a slow walk than through one photograph at the entrance.
Residents still live in the village. Whether a building, room, upper floor, or interior space is open depends on local management. A ticket or an open village entrance does not grant access to every home or living area.
Dangxi River, the riverside seats, and the old wharf
Dangxi River passes through the village, with old wharves and stone paths along the banks. The river walk is a useful way to see the relationship between the water, old homes, and lanes. Zushi Bridge and the old wharf are connected with the history of tea transport, while the riverside seats offer views towards the water and buildings.
The route suits visitors interested in historic buildings, local history, and photography, as well as travellers who want a quieter alternative to a large scenic area. The stone can be slippery after rain, so slow down with older adults and do not step into wet or closed areas for photographs.
Chengshi Hermit's Residence and village life
Chengshi Hermit's Residence is one of the older buildings in the village and is now connected with tea-culture experiences. Together with Zushi Bridge and the old wharf, it helps explain the link between the village buildings and the historical tea route. Interior access and any activity depend on the day's arrangement.
Xiamei is better for a quiet village walk and observation of local life than for a commercial old-town itinerary. Tea houses, shops, and temporary guiding are optional; visitors can complete the route at their own pace.
Build your day
Quick route: Zushi Bridge to Dangxi
Enter from the village entrance, visit Zushi Bridge, continue to the old Dangxi wharf and Zou Dafu Residence, then walk along the river before returning to the Visitor Service Centre. The route takes about 1–1.5 hours and can be combined with Wuyi Palace, the Tea Expo Garden, or another nearby stop, but the road journey must be calculated separately.
Do not carry large luggage through the stone lanes if you can avoid it. If you are also changing accommodation that day, deal with the luggage at the village entrance or in the vehicle first.
Classic route: homes and tea-trade traces
First-time visitors can follow Zushi Bridge, Zhenguo Temple, Zou Clan Ancestral Hall, the Jin merchants' tea-house area, Zou Dafu Residence, Chengshi Hermit's Residence, Xishui Bieye, and the Dangxi riverside. Allow about 2–3 hours, depending on which buildings are open, how long you stop for photographs, and how often the group rests.
If a building is temporarily closed, do not enter a resident courtyard or use a non-visitor route to complete the list. The value of Xiamei lies in the village as a whole and its relationship with the stream, not in entering every building.
Half a day: add an activity only after confirming it
If a tea-farmer picking or tea-making activity is running, especially during the spring-tea period around May and June, you can add it after the village walk. A rowing boat also requires confirmation of the day's operation, price, and boarding points. Without that confirmation, complete the old-home and riverside route instead.
If you plan to stay overnight, confirm the accommodation and vehicle arrangement in advance. The village is harder to reach by ride-hailing car in the evening; after dark, the choice of accommodation or transport becomes much smaller.
Get there
Driving, taxi, and bus
Driving is the simplest way to reach Xiamei. Navigate to the Xiamei Ancient Village parking area and leave the car at the village entrance, where parking is usually free. A taxi from Sangu Resort commonly takes 15–20 minutes, although the fare depends on the starting point and traffic.
Public transport from Wuyishan city can include the Xiamei special line or Bus 5, with a journey of about 30–40 minutes. The final buses commonly leave around 17:30–17:40, so confirm the return service instead of checking only the outbound route.
Inside the village and on the way back
Cars should remain at the village entrance because the interior lanes are not suitable for normal vehicle access. After 17:00, it becomes difficult to call a ride-hailing car back to Sangu Resort, and public transport may also involve a long wait.
Drivers need to walk back to the entrance to collect the car. Non-drivers should arrange a ride or leave enough time for the bus. Do not accept an unconfirmed transfer without first agreeing on the price and destination, and do not treat a resident's car as regular public transport.
Know before you go
Free admission and extra services
You can currently plan around free main admission, but the policy may change. Commentary, rowing boats, and tea activities may cost extra. If you want a guide, ask at the Visitor Service Centre about the available service, then confirm the price, route, and scope before accepting it.
People near the entrance may offer informal guiding. It is not a fixed part of the attraction. If you accept a service, agree on the route, price, and finishing point first instead of following someone on an unclear arrangement.
Stone paths, insects, and tea purchases
The village uses many stone paths that become slippery after rain. Wear flat, non-slip shoes rather than hard soles or high heels. There are more insects near Dangxi River, so carry repellent and use sun protection in summer.
Tea shops in the village vary in price and quality. Ask about the price, origin, packaging, and production information before buying. Do not treat a shop, tea-factory visit, or tasting activity promoted in the village as part of the sightseeing experience.
Food, accommodation, and timing
Food and accommodation options change with the season and individual business hours. A particular shop, activity, or homestay cannot be guaranteed. If you want to stay until evening, confirm the room and vehicle in advance; otherwise, finish in daylight and return to Sangu Resort or the city.
Morning or arrival before 16:00–17:00 is a practical choice. It can reduce some tour-group pressure and leaves more time for the village walk and the return journey.
