Treat Nanniwan as a half-day suburban route

Nanniwan is outside Yan'an's core city area, so it works better as a separate half-day route or as part of a longer suburban itinerary.

Start with the production-campaign museum and core memorial points

For a first visit, begin with the museum or exhibition spaces related to the Nanniwan production campaign, then continue to the memorial square and core former-site points.

Self-driving or hiring a car is smoother

Nanniwan covers a large area, and the main stops are not all next to each other. Public transport can work, but schedules and waiting time are less convenient than in central Yan'an.

Let the season decide how much time to give the rural scenery

In summer and autumn, the rice fields, wetland, and boardwalk areas are more worth your time. Outside the best field-viewing season, shift the focus back to the exhibition spaces, former sites, and the historical story of Nanniwan.
