How to Visit
1

Decide whether you are here for the town or the Li River

Xingping Ancient Town itself is small, and the old street is easy to walk. Many visitors come mainly for the CNY 20 banknote view, Li River bamboo rafts, Nine Horses Mountain, and Xianggong Mountain. Decide the main goal first, and the route becomes clearer.

Tip:Do not only circle the busy shop street. The CNY 20 view and river viewpoints are not in the most commercial part of town.
2

Put the CNY 20 view first

After arriving in Xingping, go to the CNY 20 banknote viewpoint first, then return to the old town for food or a walk. Going earlier means fewer people and cleaner light.

Tip:Bringing a CNY 20 note is just a fun photo idea. The real reason to stop is the river bend and mountain shape.
3

Choose Li River bamboo rafts carefully

Li River bamboo rafts around Xingping are not the same experience as Yulong River rafts. The Li River ride is more about broad river scenery and connecting sights. When buying, confirm the pier, route, and whether transfer is included.

Tip:Avoid informal street offers, especially if the price is unusually low or the route is unclear.
4

Leave time for Xianggong Mountain or Nine Horses Mountain transfers

Xingping combines well with Xianggong Mountain and Nine Horses Mountain, but moving between these places still requires vehicles, ferry transfers, or riding.

Tip:If you want Xianggong Mountain sunrise, stay in Xingping or near Xianggong Mountain the night before instead of rushing from Yangshuo town early in the morning.
Highlights
  • Xingping is an important stop on the best-known Li River section and sits closer to the core river scenery than West Street.
  • The CNY 20 banknote background is one of the most recognizable Yangshuo viewpoints.
  • The old street is small and works for a slow walk, rice noodles, oil tea, or small souvenirs.
  • From Xingping, you can connect to Nine Horses Mountain, Yellow Cloth Shoal, Xianggong Mountain, and other Li River sights.
  • For travelers with limited time, Xingping is better than Yangshuo town for seeing Li River scenery.
Insider Tips

The old town is free to enter, but bamboo rafts, parking, ferry rides, sightseeing vehicles, and nearby sights cost extra.

Yangshuo Railway Station is closer to Xingping than to Yangshuo town, which can help with route planning.

The CNY 20 viewpoint is crowded during holidays. Arriving early helps more than trying to fix photos later.

If renting an e-bike for river roads and villages, ask clearly about battery, deposit, and return location.

Do not casually attempt Laozhai Mountain if your fitness is average. The route is steep and riskier than a normal viewpoint.
