Plan at a glance
Use the East Gate visitor centre as the main entrance
The Archaeological Park of Emperor Yang of Sui's Mausoleum is at 1 Shuxia Road and has East and West Gate directions. The East Gate visitor centre is the most practical first entrance. Parking, ticketing, toilets, and the main visitor information are concentrated there, making it easier to orient yourself.
The adult ticket is CNY 30. Opening hours are 08:30–17:00, with last admission at 16:00. The park is closed on Mondays, although public-holiday arrangements may differ. Reservations can be made through WeChat or other booking platforms, and on-site purchase may also be available.
Allow about 1.5 hours for a quick visit and 2–3 hours for the full route. The site combines archaeological remains, indoor galleries, and outdoor axes, so plan for both reading and walking rather than treating it as one tomb or one exhibition room.
Who is it for?
The park suits visitors interested in Sui-Tang history, archaeology, mausoleum architecture, and excavated objects. The main content includes the relic hall, crown-style architecture, the water-axis area, the “Emperor Mausoleum Exploration” gallery, and excavated treasures.
The grounds are open and sunny in good weather. History-focused visitors can spend more time indoors. Those who enjoy architecture and spatial layouts should keep the outdoor axis and water area in the route when the weather is comfortable.

Relic hall and crown-style architecture
After entering from East Gate, start with the relic hall and the crown-style architectural area. The indoor explanations help you understand the site's layout and the reconstructed structures. After reading inside, look at the crown-style building, the water axis, and the outdoor path as one spatial sequence.
These structures and remains are presented through the site's archaeological setting; they are not complete palace interiors that visitors can freely enter. Follow barriers and viewing lines when taking photographs.
The Sui history and underground-exploration displays
The B1 “Emperor Mausoleum Exploration” display works well in the first half or middle of the route. Follow it with the excavated treasures and the first-floor Sui history exhibition. Visitors interested in archaeology can connect the exploration display with the teeth, inscriptions, and object labels.
If the exhibition reading takes longer than expected, choose the sections that interest you most. With 1.5 hours, prioritize the relic hall, B1, and treasures. With 2–3 hours, add the first-floor history displays and the outdoor axis.
Excavated objects and labels
The exhibition includes a thirteen-ring jade belt, a reproduction of Empress Xiao's crown, teeth, inscriptions, and other object information. These displays help explain the relationship between the tomb, its historical figures, ritual context, and archaeological discoveries. The crown is presented as a reproduction, so follow the display label when describing it.
Visitors unfamiliar with Sui history can start with the people and dates, then move to the objects. This gives the exhibition a sequence instead of reducing it to a series of cases.
Build your day
The 1.5-hour quick route
Enter at the East Gate visitor centre. See the relic hall, then the B1 “Emperor Mausoleum Exploration” display, the excavated treasures, and the first-floor Sui history exhibition. If time remains, make a short walk along the main outdoor axis and water area before returning to East Gate.
This route puts the most information-rich indoor sections first and works well for visitors returning to the city in the afternoon. If you arrive near the 16:00 last-admission cut-off, prioritize the galleries and treasures, and use the outdoor axis only if time allows.
The two- to three-hour full route
Start with the relic hall and crown-style architecture, continue through the water-axis area and outdoor path, then visit B1, the excavated treasures, and the first-floor Sui history exhibition. Return to the visitor centre after covering both the indoor and outdoor sections.
The full route includes longer reading and outdoor walking. Agree on the visitor centre or the outdoor-axis entrance as a meeting point if group members have different interests. Do not send part of the group to West Gate without arranging the return vehicle.
Spring surroundings
In spring, Jianzhen Sakura Avenue and nearby seasonal scenery can be an additional short stop. Flowering depends on the year and weather, so finish the mausoleum park's ticketed route and return transport before extending the outdoor plan.
The Archaeological Park of Emperor Yang of Sui's Mausoleum and the Museum of the Han Guangling King cover different historical periods. History-focused visitors may prefer separate days, or one as the main attraction and the other as a shorter stop.
Get there
From Yangzhou Station
From Yangzhou Station, take bus 82 to Wutinglong East Gate, then change to bus 25 toward Leitang. The transfer and the final walk need extra time. With luggage or a group that walks slowly, a direct taxi may be easier.
Public transport involves waiting and a transfer, so do not estimate the journey from the straight-line distance. After booking, leave a buffer before your admission time.
From Yangzhou East Station
From Yangzhou East Station, take bus 9 or K1 to Youyi Square, then change to bus 25 toward Leitang. Include the transfer, walking, and return time, especially if you have a train later the same day.
For a taxi or ride-hailing car, use “East Gate visitor centre of the Archaeological Park of Emperor Yang of Sui's Mausoleum” as the destination. The park has East and West Gate directions, so name the entrance clearly.
Driving and parking
Parking is available near the East Gate visitor centre. For a first visit, enter and leave from the East Gate. Note where the vehicle is parked and the visitor-centre location before following the outdoor route back toward the exit.
If you approach from the west, first confirm that West Gate is suitable for visitor entry that day before choosing it as your start. East Gate is the more predictable first-visit option.
Know before you go
Ticket, reservation, and closure
The adult ticket is CNY 30. Opening hours are 08:30–17:00, last admission is 16:00, and Monday is the regular closing day. You can reserve through WeChat or other booking platforms, and on-site purchase may be available. Keep the reservation, ticket, and last-admission time separate in your plan.
Public-holiday hours may differ. A Monday closure should not automatically be extended to every holiday. For an afternoon arrival, complete B1, the treasures, and the main galleries first, then decide how long to stay outdoors.
Indoor and outdoor walking
The visit combines indoor galleries with outdoor axes and buildings. In summer, carry water and sun protection. In rain, wear shoes with good grip. In winter, the outdoor axis can be windy, so seeing the galleries first may be more comfortable.
The full route takes about 2–3 hours, with a fair amount of reading. Use the visitor centre as a meeting and rest point if group members have different stamina levels.
Guiding, food, and nearby plans
You can choose a guide or audio explanation according to the day's arrangements. A historical guide can make the relationship between the remains, objects, and figures easier to follow. Food is limited near the park; restaurants in the Situmiao or Shuangtang direction, about 1–2 kilometres away, are more practical, or bring water and a light snack.
This park is not a walkable continuation of Dongguan Street or Geyuan in the old town. Decide your return vehicle or bus transfer first, then add spring scenery or another distant stop if time remains.
