Plan at a glance
A small museum for an old-town half day
Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics Memorial Hall is at 154 Tuoling Lane near Wenchang Pavilion. The site is connected with a Ming-era temple and is small in scale. It suits visitors interested in Qing-era Yangzhou painting and calligraphy, Jin Nong, Zheng Banqiao, and local art history more than anyone expecting a large general museum.
The main points include the nanmu hall, an old ginkgo tree, a Southern Tang scripture pillar, Jin Nong's residence, and displays of calligraphy, sculpture, and documents. Some displays are reproductions or supporting exhibits, so focus on the relationship between the buildings, inscriptions, courtyards, and the Eight Eccentrics' artistic background.
Ticket, reservation, and time
The adult ticket is CNY 22. Opening hours are 08:00–18:00, and the museum is closed on Mondays. The reservation arrangement is usually one day ahead, with tickets released at 09:00. Complete the reservation before adding the museum to a busy old-town route.
Allow 30–45 minutes for a quick visit and 1–1.5 hours for the galleries and courtyards. The museum can combine with Dongguan Street, Geyuan, or Pishi Street, but do not reduce the visit to the entrance and one hall just to collect another stop.

The nanmu hall and Ming-era remains
The nanmu hall is the first major building after the entrance. Look at its timber structure, scale, and relationship with the courtyard. The Southern Tang scripture pillar is an older historic element and will interest visitors who like inscriptions, religious remains, and local history.
Starting with the building and remains before entering the galleries gives first-time overseas visitors a clearer sense of the site. It is easier to understand the artists after you know the setting in which the memorial hall is located.
Jin Nong, Zheng Banqiao, and the displays
The memorial hall uses Jin Nong's and Zheng Banqiao's residences, calligraphy, and documents to introduce the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou. Zheng Banqiao's distinctive calligraphy, Jin Nong's lacquer-style calligraphy, sculptures, and reproductions are useful focus points, although displays can change with exhibitions.
Visitors familiar with calligraphy can spend longer on brushwork and inscriptions. Those new to the subject can treat the galleries as a compact introduction to Yangzhou's local art history rather than expecting every item to be an original in a large museum setting.
The old ginkgo and rear courtyard
The old ginkgo is in the rear courtyard and works well as the last stop after the main displays. Autumn leaf colour, spring plants, and courtyard light change the photography conditions, so the seasonal scenery should be treated as an extra rather than a year-round guarantee.
The rear courtyard is small. Keep the path clear while taking photos. If you only want the Eight Eccentrics theme, the hall, scripture pillar, main galleries, and ginkgo are enough. If you enjoy architecture and trees, give the courtyard more time.
Build your day
The 30-minute entry route
Enter and see the nanmu hall first, then the sculpture and introductory displays. Continue to the Southern Tang scripture pillar and the rear-courtyard ginkgo before returning to the exit.
This route suits visitors who also want Dongguan Street or another old-town attraction. Keep the scripture pillar and courtyard in the route. If you arrive late in the day, finish the main hall, core galleries, and ginkgo before spending time on supporting displays.
The 1- to 1.5-hour full route
Start with the nanmu hall and courtyard, then follow the galleries on the Eight Eccentrics, Jin Nong, and Zheng Banqiao. Continue to Jin Nong's residence, the stele gallery, and the old ginkgo before returning to the exit.
If the displays include reproductions or a temporary exhibition, read the labels before deciding whether to focus on the objects, the buildings, or the courtyard. The museum's route is compact, but its display scale is limited, so set expectations accordingly.
Combine it with Wenchang Pavilion and Dongguan Street
The museum sits near Wenchang Pavilion and the old-town activity area. You can place it before or after Dongguan Street, Geyuan, or Pishi Street. Check that the museum is open and your reservation is ready before setting the walking pace.
There is no need to force every residence and museum into one half day. Use the memorial hall as a one-hour indoor cultural stop, then use Dongguan Street for food and walking. This also gives you a useful option in hot or rainy weather.
Get there
Reaching the Wenchang Pavilion area
The memorial hall is at 154 Tuoling Lane near Wenchang Pavilion. After reaching the area, follow the lane signs on foot. Taxis usually stop on the wider road outside the narrow lane, followed by a short walk.
Walking from Dongguan Street or Geyuan is possible, but the time depends on the day's crowds and lane access. With luggage or someone who cannot walk far, take a short taxi ride to the nearby road and walk the final section.
Parking
Parking near the memorial hall is limited. Ask about the charging method at the entrance and use a regular parking area where possible. Temporary parking in the lane is not a reliable plan, especially on weekends and holidays.
Drivers can park outside the old-town lanes and walk to the memorial hall and Dongguan Street. If Geyuan is also on the route, decide where the car will stay before moving between narrow entrances.
Know before you go
Monday closure and reservation
The museum is open 08:00–18:00 and closed on Mondays. The adult ticket is CNY 22, and the reservation arrangement is usually one day ahead with tickets released at 09:00. Record the reservation and arrival time together rather than relying only on the old-town walking route.
If you miss the reservation or the displays change, Dongguan Street, Pishi Street, and other open areas can fill the time. The museum is small, so your route should follow the actual admission arrangement.
Focus and expectations
The main value lies in the nanmu hall, Southern Tang scripture pillar, old ginkgo, residence spaces, and the Eight Eccentrics' artistic context. The number of displays and the proportion of original works are not comparable with a large art museum. Visitors who like to read calligraphy and labels should allow the full hour.
Keep quiet and follow the museum's photography rules. Do not use flash where prohibited or block display cases and corridors for a long time. Give guided groups room to pass.
Season and old-town planning
The old ginkgo is more likely to be a photography highlight in autumn, while spring plants may make the courtyard more rewarding. These seasonal details do not replace the main galleries. In hot or wet weather, the memorial hall works well as the indoor part of an old-town route.
When combining it with Dongguan Street, Geyuan, or Pishi Street, schedule the museum first because it has a reservation and closing time. Street shops and food stops are easier to adjust later.
