Place Baling Square after Yueyang Tower

Baling Square is close to both Yueyang Tower and Bianhe Street, so it works well as the final stop on the core walking route. Visit Yueyang Tower first, continue through Bianhe Street, then end with the square and lakeside.

Start with the Houyi Slaying the Ba Snake sculpture

The square's most recognizable landmark is the Houyi Slaying the Ba Snake sculpture, connected with the legend behind Yueyang's old name, Baling. Start here, then move toward the water.

Walk the lakeside slowly

Baling Square is more of an open public space than a closed attraction with fixed stops. The point is to see Dongting Lake, feel the lake breeze, and photograph the city and water, so slow down rather than rushing through.

Late afternoon works best

Late afternoon and sunset bring softer light over the lake and can connect naturally with Bianhe Street at night and dinner nearby. At midday, the open square can feel exposed and hot in warm weather.

Do not rely too much on night events

Lights, fountains, and temporary activities may change with season, weather, and on-site arrangements. Do not plan around one specific show unless you have confirmed it for that day.
