Yueyang Tower Scenic Area is the most useful first stop for a first visit to Yueyang. It is not just one tower: the route also brings together the main Yueyang Tower, Shuang Gong Temple, stele corridors, Sanzui Pavilion, Xiao Qiao's Tomb, and views over Dongting Lake.

Enter from the south gate and leave from the north gate

A smooth route is to enter from the south gate, visit Shuang Gong Temple and the Five-Dynasty Yueyang Tower models, then continue to the main Yueyang Tower. After that, follow the route through Sanzui Pavilion, Xianmei Pavilion, the stele corridors, and Xiao Qiao's Tomb before exiting near the north gate.

Leave time for the main tower

The main Yueyang Tower is the core of the scenic area, and queues can form when it is busy. Do not treat it as a quick photo stop. Allow at least 30-45 minutes for the tower itself, including the carved screens, timber structure, and third-floor views toward Dongting Lake.

Connect the lakeside area afterward

After leaving the scenic area, it is easy to continue on foot to Bianhe Street, Baling Square, and the Dongting Lake waterfront. A practical route is Yueyang Tower in the morning, lunch around Bianhe Street, then Baling Square and the lake at sunset.

Do not arrive at the last minute on holidays

The scenic area is not huge, but it is famous and tour groups are common. Weekends and public holidays can feel crowded. Arrive early if you want quieter photos, or come later in the afternoon if you prefer a slower pace.
