Plan Junshan Island as a half-day lake-island route

Junshan Island is not a quick stop to squeeze between Yueyang Tower and city sights. Because it sits in Dongting Lake, you need to plan transport, island time, and the return trip separately. It works best as a slower half-day outing.

Decide how you will get there first

The simplest option is to take a taxi or drive to Junshan Island Visitor Center. For a cheaper route, take Tourist Bus 15 from the Yueyang Tower or Bianhe Street area. If you want a lake approach, you can consider a boat or speedboat from piers near Yueyang Tower.

Focus on the core sights after landing

The main island stops are Xiangfei Temple, Liuyi Well, Junshan Yinzhen tea-related displays, and lakeside viewpoints. For a first visit, you do not need to cover every small stop. It is better to treat the island as a place for legends, tea culture, and lake scenery.

Do not assume all island transport works the same way

The sightseeing shuttle is usually the most stable way to save energy. Self-drive electric carts or other small vehicles may be limited to specific routes or zones and may not circle the whole island.

Confirm the return before you commit

The return trip is the easiest part to mishandle, especially if you take a boat. Before going over, confirm the last return service, return pier, and whether you need to queue.
