Location and entrance
Pujiu Temple is in Xixiang Village, Puzhou Town, Yongji, Yuncheng. Navigate to “Pujiu Temple Scenic Area”; the entrance is in Xixiang Village. The scenic area has a car park, with parking costing about CNY 10 per day.
Tickets, opening and discounts
Tickets cost CNY 60 per person in peak season (April–October) and CNY 50 in the off-season (November–March of the following year). Full-time students pay half price, and visitors aged 60 or above enter free with proof of age. In peak season, opening is 08:30–18:00 with last admission at 17:30; in the off-season, it is 09:00–17:00 with last admission at 16:30. Buying online in advance and entering by scanning the code is more suitable when you have a fixed route.
How much time to allow
Allow about 1 hour for the mountain gate, Bell Tower, Yingying Pagoda and Lihua Shen Yuan (梨花深院). Add the 108 steps, Jiwa Platform (击蛙台), Zhang Sheng’s West Studio, the rear garden and Heart-lock Square for 1.5–2 hours. The evening production “Dream of the Western Chamber” takes about another 1.5 hours and should be planned as a separate block from the daytime route.

Choose your visit
Yingying Pagoda and the Jiwa Platform echo
Yingying Pagoda is a square Ming-dynasty brick pagoda. The key experience is Jiwa Platform (击蛙台), the temple’s echo spot, on its west side: strike the stone from the designated position and, when it is quiet, you may hear a “croak, croak” echo. The effect depends on where you stand and on the surroundings, so follow the signs, do not keep striking the pagoda itself and do not gather in narrow areas.
Lihua Shen Yuan (梨花深院), the “Deep Courtyard of Pear Blossoms”
Lihua Shen Yuan (梨花深院), the “Deep Courtyard of Pear Blossoms,” represents the home of Cui Yingying’s family in *The Western Chamber*. Its moon gate, red walls and bamboo shadows are good photographic subjects; Zhang Sheng’s West Studio and the rear garden complete the story’s setting. Pear blossoms may be in bloom from late March to mid-April, depending on the weather, so do not plan around a guaranteed date.
Daytime visit or evening performance
First-time visitors who want historic buildings and the echo should take the complete daytime route. If you enjoy live productions, look for “Dream of the Western Chamber.” It usually starts at 19:50 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and lasts about 1.5 hours, but performance dates, sessions and ticketing are changeable.
Build your day
An approximately 1-hour short route
Enter through the mountain gate, visit the Bell Tower, Yingying Pagoda and Lihua Shen Yuan in that order, then leave through the exit. This keeps the temple’s most recognisable pagoda, echo and moon gate, and works well when Pujiu Temple is a short stop within a wider Yongji itinerary. Steps and photography stops will affect the actual time.
A 1.5–2-hour complete route
Follow Mountain Gate → 108 Steps → Bell Tower → Yingying Pagoda → Jiwa Platform → Lihua Shen Yuan → Zhang Sheng’s West Studio → Rear Garden → Heart-lock Square. Complete the climb first, then follow the story settings in sequence. Leave through the exit and return to the car park or take a taxi towards the station; keep the narrow corridors clear while taking photographs.
Evening route
If “Dream of the Western Chamber” is running that day, treat it as a separate evening activity. The performance itself takes about 1.5 hours; follow the scenic area’s designated meeting point and walking route. The 19:50 weekend time is indicative only. Confirm whether the performance is running, whether a separate ticket is required and whether it connects with the daytime exit.
Get there
High-speed rail and train connections
A taxi from Yongji North Railway Station takes about 20 minutes to the scenic area. From Yongji Railway Station, take bus 2 directly to the scenic-area entrance; the fare is about CNY 4. Plan the departure around the actual train timetable, because public transport after an evening visit is different from daytime service.
Driving and a Yongji heritage day
Navigate to “Pujiu Temple Scenic Area” for the car park, with parking costing about CNY 10 per day. Pujiu Temple and Stork Tower are both on the Yongji route, so arrange the order around their opening hours. They have separate tickets and entrances; Pujiu Temple’s evening performance is not included in the Stork Tower ticket, and Stork Tower’s tower-access rules do not apply here.
Time-sensitive ticket-stub activity
In 2026, half-price activities have been offered for ticket stubs from trains K237, 8165 and K2665 and for film *Eight Immortals* ticket stubs, but the applicable period, ticket-stub format and whether the activity is still running must be confirmed before purchase.
Know before you go
Steps and the echo point
There are 108 steps in the scenic area, so wear comfortable shoes with good grip. Older adults, children and visitors with reduced mobility can choose whether to take the complete climb according to the route available on arrival. Jiwa Platform works best in quiet conditions; stand in the designated place and do not climb the pagoda base or railings.
Photography and drones
The moon gate, red-wall corridors and viewpoints outside the temple serve different photographic purposes, while the full outline of Yingying Pagoda is easier to photograph from an open area. Drones are prohibited throughout the scenic area. Keep narrow spaces clear, do not touch historic buildings and do not cross management lines for a different angle.
Food and devotional purchases
Incense is optional, and you can politely decline if you do not want to buy it. Nearby options include Nana Big Plate Chicken, Shengtang Manor Farmhouse and Hanjiazhuang Restaurant beside the Yellow River No. 1 Route. Puzhou Town has farm restaurants, while Yongji city has chain hotels; after an evening activity, prioritise a return option that you have already confirmed.
