How to Visit
1

Treat it as one short section of the summit route

The Tianmen Mountain Glass Walkway is not a half-day attraction by itself. It is a short experience within the summit walkway system.

Tip:It usually fits together with Guigu Cliff Walk, the west route, or the east route, so experience it if it lies naturally on your route rather than rebuilding the whole day around it.
2

Check which glass section your route passes

Tianmen Mountain has several glass walkway sections, including west-route, east-route, and Panlong Cliff areas. Different routes pass different sections.

Tip:For a first visit, you do not need to complete all of them. Choose the section that fits your A/B/C route most smoothly.
3

Pay for shoe covers on site before entering

The glass walkway is usually not a separate major admission ticket, but you normally pay a small shoe-cover or walkway service fee on site.

Tip:Put on the required shoe covers before entering and return them after the walkway. Avoid stopping too long at the entrance for photos because it blocks the queue behind you.
4

Skip it if heights are a problem

The glass walkway sits along the cliff edge. It has proper safety protection, but visitors with a fear of heights may still feel strong pressure.

Tip:If someone in your group is uncomfortable, walk slowly on the inside edge or use the normal bypass route. Skipping it will not prevent you from completing the summit route.
5

Lower expectations in rain or fog

The glass walkway depends heavily on weather. In rain, condensation, or thick fog, the transparent effect and distant views are weaker, and some sections may close temporarily.

Tip:In poor weather, treat it as a short add-on rather than the main goal of the day.
Highlights
  • The glass walkway is one of the most talked-about experiences on Tianmen Mountain's summit route.
  • West-route, east-route, and Panlong Cliff sections offer different angles of the mountain and valley.
  • In clear weather, the glass floor, cliff edge, and distant valley create a strong sense of height.
  • For visitors who are not afraid of heights, it adds a light thrill to the summit walk; for others, bypassing it is perfectly fine.
  • It should not be oversold as the core of Tianmen Mountain. It works best as a memorable section of the summit walk.
Insider Tips

The shoe-cover or walkway service fee is usually paid on site, commonly CNY 5 per section.

Avoid slippery shoes, especially in rain, fog, or damp conditions.

When crowded, do not spend too long posing on the glass because it blocks the flow.

If you are also planning Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, treat Tianmen Mountain Glass Walkway as the lighter glass experience.

If you are afraid of heights, traveling with children, or someone in your group feels shaky, safety and comfort matter more than the photo.
