Location and how to get in
Jinluan Bay Beach is in Kangmei Town, Dongshan County, Zhangzhou, a free public beach with no unified gate or ticket. The commonly used entrance is the Jinluan Bay Mirror Sand Beach; for self-drivers, navigating to "Jinluan Bay Grand Hotel" or "Chinese Casuarina" is more direct. It is open all day and needs no reservation, but changing rooms, foot-washing, and shops are limited, so do not treat it as a fully equipped resort beach.
How much time you need
A quick visit takes about 2 hours and suits the early morning: watch the sunrise, wait for low tide, and walk a stretch of the boardwalk. If you want more time on the sand or to reach the Chinese casuarina windbreak as well, allow about 3-4 hours. Early morning 5:30-7:00 is the common sunrise window; the exact sunrise time follows that day.
Tides decide the experience
The mirror reflection can only appear about 1-2 hours before or after low tide; at high tide it is ordinary surf, and it also needs light wind and suitable light. The beach being open all day does not mean every hour is worth visiting. Want the sunrise? Get up early. Want the reflection? Check the day's tide table first. If the two do not line up, adjust your focus.

Mirror Sand Beach
The beach is gentle and the sand is fine; around low tide, a low camera angle may catch the sky's reflection. Whether the mirror appears depends on the tide level, wind, and light; do not treat internet pictures as a fixed guarantee. From ground level it looks like an ordinary beach, so keep expectations measured and the visit becomes easier to enjoy.
Coastal boardwalk and Chinese casuarina windbreak
The coastal boardwalk suits a walk, and the Chinese casuarina windbreak is a coastal protection forest with tall, shady trees, also good for sunrise and photography. The boardwalk is not fully shaded, the midday sun is harsh, and the sea wind can be strong, so keep your hat secure. Which sections are open or under repair follows the on-site situation.
Who it suits
It suits visitors who enjoy the beach, sunrise, a slow walk, and photography, and families with children who want to play on the sand near the shore. Do not assume the beach has lifeguards; judge for yourself whether to go in the water or stay near the waterline, and keep away from the water during high tide or big waves. Do not assume bonfires or camping are allowed; take your rubbish with you when you leave at night.
Build your day
Early-morning quick route (about 2 hours)
Arrive at the Mirror Sand Beach around 5:30 to watch the sunrise, photograph the reflection from a low angle at low tide, walk a stretch of the coastal boardwalk, then return. When time is limited, focus on the sunrise and the reflection and do not pack the plan too full. Sunrise time, tide level, and wind all follow the day; if conditions are not suitable, come another day or switch the route.
Half-day route (about 3-4 hours)
Watch the sunrise first, then play on the sand and paddle in the water, walk the shaded path of the Chinese casuarina windbreak, and end by watching the sea from the boardwalk. Before paddling near the shore, check the waves and tide level first; do not enter the water at high tide or in big waves. If you want to continue, the afternoon can go to the Sufen Mountain coastal road or Nanmen Bay, but count the travel time for each stop separately.
Plan separately from other stops
Jinluan Bay is in a different direction from Nanmen Bay and Sufen Mountain; if you arrange them on the same day, count the travel time and energy for each separately and do not treat them as a short loop along the way. It is adjacent to Caidie Bay, but the two places have different operators and charging rules: Jinluan Bay is a free beach, while Caidie Bay's internal attractions need separate tickets. Leave time for walking or riding across.
Get there
High-speed rail to Jinluan Bay
After high-speed rail to Yunxiao Station, take Bus 15 (CNY 10) or a shared ride/taxi (about CNY 30-50) onto the island; the journey takes about 30-40 minutes. For Jinluan Bay, get off near Jinluan Bay Grand Hotel or the Chinese casuarina windbreak, depending on which stretch of beach you plan to visit that day.
Driving and parking
Self-drivers can navigate to "Jinluan Bay Parking Lot" or the underground garages of the residential areas. Parking commonly costs CNY 10-15 per visit, and spaces are tight on holidays. Do not park at roadside spots where people solicit drivers. Some lanes are narrow with heavy traffic; before driving into a residential area, confirm whether visitor parking is available.
Getting around the island
Renting an electric scooter is the most convenient way to get around the island; daily rental commonly costs CNY 50-80. Before leaving, confirm the battery, brakes, and return point. The beachfront of Jinluan Bay is long, so first decide whether you are heading to the Mirror Sand Beach or the casuarina side, then choose the parking and drop-off point to avoid backtracking.
Know before you go
Sunrise and the mirror are not guaranteed
Whether the sunrise looks good and whether the mirror reflection appears depend on the weather, tide level, and wind; they cannot be treated as a fixed sight. On cloudy, windy, or high-tide days it is simply an ordinary beach. For the reflection, check the tide in advance, aim for about 1-2 hours before or after low tide, and accept that the scene can change on site.
Safety and water conditions
Do not assume the beach has lifeguards, and do not treat paddling as an activity with fixed protection. Before paddling or stepping into the waves near the shore, check the wave height and tide level first; stay away from the waterline during high tide, big waves, or bad weather. Children playing on the sand need an adult watching them; do not let them get close to the sea alone.
Facilities and supplies
Changing rooms, foot-washing, and shops near the beach are limited, so prepare clothes and water in advance. Some beach areas charge by QR code for foot-washing, about CNY 3 per 30 seconds; you can also bring bottled water to rinse off. Do not leave valuables on the sand, and check your belongings before leaving.
Wind, sun, and night
UV is strong during the day and the beach has no shade, so bring enough sunscreen, a hat, and drinking water. The seaside is windy both day and night, so bring a light jacket for the morning and evening. Do not light bonfires on the sand or assume camping is allowed; take your rubbish away when you leave at night, and leave time for the return trip.
