Scenic area scope and entrances
Dongshan Windstone Scenic Area is on Gongyuan Street in Tongling Town. It is a fenced, separately ticketed scenic area. Two entrances are commonly used: the West Gate is the main entrance and sits near the coastal boardwalk; the East Gate is on the other side. The ticket covers only the scenic area, not Nanmen Bay, other beaches, or the island's other attractions.
Tickets and opening hours
Adult admission is CNY 45. Students and older visitors usually pay half price, and children under 1.2 metres enter free. Dongmen Islet requires a separate boat: the round-trip boat ticket is CNY 25, or a CNY 55 combined ticket that includes the boat. Departures and prices follow the day's on-site situation. In peak season (May-October), the common opening window is 7:00-18:30; in low season (November-April), it is 7:30-18:00. The final admission cutoff follows the day's notice.
How much time you need
A quick visit takes about 1 hour; a full visit takes about 2-3 hours. The walk from an entrance to the core area takes about 10 minutes, and the in-park shuttle is usually unnecessary. The coastal path outside the scenic area is public and offers a distant view of the Windstone, but Tongshan Ancient Town, Guandi Temple, and the boardwalk inside require entry tickets.

The Windstone
The Windstone is the core of the scenic area: about 4.37 metres high and about 200 tonnes, with a very small contact area against the rock below. It sits on a rock by the coast, and a sea breeze can make it feel as though it moves slightly. Do not climb or step past the barriers; view and photograph it only from the positions the scenic area provides.
Tongshan Ancient Town and Guandi Temple
The scenic area contains remains of Tongshan Ancient Town, connected with the history of resisting Japanese pirates in the Ming dynasty. Around the wall, you can see old buildings and the sea together. Dongshan Guandi Temple is a national key cultural relic protection site; its red walls and roof decoration are the main details to look at. Keep quiet and follow the on-site guidance as you walk. The Huang Daozhou Memorial Hall is also inside the scenic area and suits visitors interested in historical figures.
Coastal boardwalk
The coastal boardwalk is about 3,100 metres long and runs along the scenic area's coast, good for walking and sea views. It has little shade and strong midday sun; watch your footing when the sea wind is strong. The public coastal path outside the scenic area is managed separately from the boardwalk inside.
Who it suits
This suits visitors interested in old architecture, history, photography, and a slow pace. With older adults or children, use a shorter in-park route and spend less time on exposed sections. If time is limited, you can also pause on the public coastal path outside, but entering the Windstone area and the ancient town requires a ticket.
Build your day
Full entry route (about 2-3 hours)
Enter through the West Gate, walk the coastal boardwalk first, then visit Tongshan Ancient Town, the Windstone, Dongshan Guandi Temple, and Huang Daozhou Memorial Hall in order, and leave through the East Gate. This order puts the boardwalk earlier and works well when light is soft in the morning or evening. If you enter from the East Gate, reverse the order.
Short route
When time is tight, go straight to the Windstone and Guandi Temple after entering, walk part of the boardwalk, then return along the same route. The core area is about 10 minutes on foot from the entrance, and the shuttle is not needed. On holidays, ticket buying and entry may involve queues, so leave margin in the schedule.
Linking with Tongling old town
If you want Dongshan Windstone Scenic Area, Ding Street, the Wengong Shrine viewing platform, and Nanmen Bay on the same day, start in the morning, visit the scenic area first, then walk or ride to the old town and reach Nanmen Bay in the afternoon. These stops are close, but each is separately ticketed or open free, so plan them separately; one ticket does not cover them. Nanmen Bay parking is tight, so park on the perimeter when combining these stops.
Get there
From Yunxiao Station to the scenic area
After high-speed rail to Yunxiao Station, take Bus 15 or a shared ride/taxi to Tongling Town, about 30-40 minutes, then walk or ride an electric scooter about 10 minutes to the scenic area. Before entering, confirm whether you are using the West Gate or East Gate; the two entrances connect to different walking routes.
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to "Dongshan Windstone Scenic Area Parking." The regular parking lot charges about CNY 10 per day. Do not use roadside spots where people solicit drivers. The roads around the scenic area are narrow and spaces may be tight in peak season; arrive early.
Getting around the island
An electric scooter rented in Tongling Town is the most convenient way to visit. Daily rental is commonly CNY 50-80, and prices vary by shop. From the town, you can walk or ride to the scenic area; inside, walking is the main way around, so there is no need to buy an extra shuttle ticket.
Know before you go
Sun exposure and visiting windows
The scenic area has little shade, and the sun is strongest from 11:00-15:00, when sunburn is easy. Plan the main walking for 7:00-9:00 or after 16:30. The sea wind is strong and can blow hats away; bring enough sunscreen and drinking water. The boardwalk is slippery in rain, so watch your footing.
Dongmen Islet boat ticket
Dongmen Islet is a separate boat project within the scenic area; you need a separate ticket or the combined ticket. The round-trip boat ticket is CNY 25, and the combined ticket is CNY 55. Departures are affected by weather and sea conditions, and boats may stop in strong wind or high waves. If you plan to go, confirm the day's departures before deciding whether to buy the combined ticket. The boat ticket does not cover other beaches or off-island sights.
Ticket boundaries
The scenic-area ticket does not cover Nanmen Bay, Ding Street, Nanyu Double-Sided Sea, Sufen Mountain, or other bays. Different stops are run by different operators, and their opening, ticket, and parking rules cannot be applied to one another. The public coastal path outside the scenic area is free but does not include the projects inside.
Informal services
Around the scenic area, people may offer guiding, photography, or parking services, often with unclear prices. Decide for yourself whether to use them, confirm the price and content first, and do not let a sales pitch change your planned route. The regular parking lot and the scenic-area ticket office are the safer choices.
