Plan at a glance
A time-sensitive day of forest, village and temple
Baohuashan National Forest Park is in Baohua Town, Jurong, within Zhenjiang's administrative area. The main entrance is the North Gate. Qianhua Ancient Village is at the foot of the mountain and Longchang Temple is at the summit, giving the usual structure of “North Gate—ancient village—summit temple”. Reaching it from central Zhenjiang requires a separate transport plan, so treat it as a day for a distant forest and historic temple.
A quick route takes about 2–3 hours: enter through the North Gate, walk through the village, take the shuttle up, visit Longchang Temple, and take the shuttle down. Allow 4–5 hours if you want to hike through Youxi Valley or along Qianlong Imperial Road. If you also want an evening activity, arrive in the afternoon and leave separate time for the village, temple, dinner and the return journey.
A limited summer 2026 admission arrangement
From July 1 to August 31, 2026, all visitors are admitted without the main entrance ticket. This arrangement includes Qianhua Ancient Village and Longchang Temple. The internal shuttle is not included; a single ride costs CNY 10 per person. During the summer free-entry period, the current arrangement does not require online reservation, but bring your own identity document for entry by ID verification.
This free-entry and opening arrangement has specific dates and should not be treated as a year-round policy. Outside this summer period, the standard main-ticket price is not specified in this guide, so do not enter a fixed amount in plans for other dates. Opening hours should also be confirmed for the date of travel.

Qianhua Ancient Village and the mountain foot
Qianhua Ancient Village lies between the North Gate and the mountain. It suits a walk through lanes, bridges, water and historic-style buildings. There are snacks, folk displays and some performances, and the red lanterns make the lanes photogenic in the evening. Shops and activities vary by date, so visitors planning to reach Longchang Temple can decide after the village whether to take the shuttle or hike.
The village works well for light walking, families and architecture photography. Its commercial facilities may be quiet, so focus on the lanes, buildings and mountain-foot setting, and leave room for specific shops or performances to change.
Longchang Temple, the Beamless Hall and Copper Hall
Longchang Temple sits at the summit and is the main historic-temple visit on Baohuashan. The Beamless Hall and Copper Hall retain Ming-era architectural and craft features, making them worthwhile for visitors interested in Buddhist architecture, historic construction and temple history.
The climb from the village can be made by shuttle or on foot, and the temple visit itself includes walking between courtyards and buildings. Keep quiet inside the temple and follow restrictions when photographing historic structures. If someone in the group cannot manage a long climb, combine an easy walk through the village with a shuttle ride to the temple.
Evening activities and summer nature
During summer 2026, the Iron Flower performance is usually scheduled around 19:30 on Fridays through Sundays by Yudie Lake, but rain may cancel it. Fireflies are a possible summer-night natural sight, not a scheduled performance or a guaranteed attraction.
The Iron Flower performance can be combined with an afternoon visit to Qianhua Ancient Village and Longchang Temple. Plan the exit, parking and public transport separately after the evening activity. Visitors interested only in the village and historic temple do not need to extend the visit for the night programme.
Build your day
A 2–3 hour shuttle route
Enter through the North Gate and walk through Qianhua Ancient Village first. Take the shuttle from the village area up the mountain. At the summit, visit Longchang Temple, focusing on the Beamless Hall and Copper Hall, then take the shuttle down and leave towards the North Gate.
This route suits visitors with limited time, older visitors, children and anyone who mainly wants the village and the temple's key buildings. Walking through the village and summit grounds still takes time; the shuttle solves the uphill and downhill transport but does not replace walking inside the temple or village.
A 4–5 hour hiking route
After entering through the North Gate, walk through Qianhua Ancient Village, then hike uphill from behind the village through Youxi Valley or along Qianlong Imperial Road. Visit Longchang Temple at the summit. According to your energy, take the shuttle down or walk back along the vehicle road towards the North Gate.
This route suits visitors with good fitness in stable weather. Stone paths, Youxi Valley and mountain trails become more slippery after rain. If you decide not to hike down, keep money for the shuttle and time to wait for it, and leave a generous margin for the return journey.
A summer evening route
If you plan to watch Iron Flower, arrive at the North Gate in the afternoon. Walk through Qianhua Ancient Village, take the shuttle up to Longchang Temple, and return to the foot of the mountain or the Yudie Lake area later in the afternoon. The performance around 19:30 is a Friday-to-Sunday summer arrangement and may be cancelled by rain; follow the on-site crowd and viewing instructions.
Food and public transport outside the park may be more limited after the evening activity. Drivers should confirm the exit route from the car park in advance. Public-transport visitors should allow time to wait for a bus, and may find it easier to make Baohuashan a Nanjing-direction day trip.
Get there
Nanjing Metro and bus
Without a car, take Nanjing Metro Line 2 to Jing Tian Road Station, then transfer to Bus 191. The bus ride takes about 50 minutes. Get off at the “Baohuashan” stop and walk to the North Gate area. The one-way bus fare is about CNY 2–5, and the transport card with national interoperability can be used.
This route is anchored to the Nanjing side rather than a city-metro connection from central Zhenjiang. From Zhenjiang, calculate the time needed to reach the Nanjing transfer point first. For the return, also allow for Bus 191's service intervals and the park's exit time.
By car and parking
Navigate to “Baohuashan National Forest Park North Gate Parking Lot”. Parking costs CNY 10 per stay and charging stations are available. The North Gate is the usual starting point, and Qianhua Ancient Village is about a 10-minute walk away. Remember the North Gate and the car's location after parking so that the return direction is easier to find after dark.
Qianhua Ancient Village, Longchang Temple and Youxi Valley involve different levels of walking. Drivers do not need to search for summit parking or change the route for it; the North Gate followed by walking and shuttle rides is generally easier to control.
Know before you go
Dates, tickets and opening hours
From July 1 to August 31, 2026, the main ticket is free and the shuttle costs CNY 10 per person per ride. Free admission does not include internal transport. The summer schedule is 08:00–21:00, with last entry at 20:30. These hours are connected to the summer evening programme and should not be carried over to other dates.
Outside summer, the standard main-ticket price is not specified here; the safer plan is to note that admission must follow the arrangement for the day rather than inventing a standard fare. Iron Flower should likewise be understood only as the Friday-to-Sunday summer 2026 time slot described above.
Weather, mosquitoes and food
There are many mosquitoes in the forest during summer, so bring repellent. Qianhua Ancient Village, stone paths and Youxi Valley can become wet and slippery after rain; wear shoes with good grip. Bring water for a hike, as food and drink choices at the summit and village are limited.
Vegetarian meals inside Longchang Temple may be relatively expensive. For a full meal, plan around Baohua Town or along the return route. Deciding on dinner and the return transport before entering is safer than trying to find a restaurant and vehicle after the evening programme.
