Plan at a glance
A lakeside walking park in town
Xiangshan Park is at the northeast corner of Binhe East Road and Gulou South Street in Wenchang Town, Shapotou District, Zhongwei. It works well for a lakeside walk in town. Xiangshan Lake, the poplar grove, the Yellow River waterwheel and the boardwalk to the island are the main stops. Drum Tower, Gao Miao and Five Museums and One Centre are at separate locations, each with its own entrance; navigate to each separately and check its opening arrangements.
Check the hours and entrance first
A recent Trip.com listing shows hours of 6:00–19:30 and last entry at 18:30; use these as a planning reference. Follow the park's notice on holidays or event days. The park has several entrances, so plan your finish time around your route and the hours for that day.

Choose your visit
See the waterwheel and poplar grove by the lake
The lakeside path offers views of Xiangshan Lake and the Yellow River waterwheel. A shaded path runs through the poplar grove, where you can slow down or stop for photos. Leaf colour changes by season, and an autumn visit does not guarantee golden foliage; enjoy the grove as part of a walk by the lake.
Check the island boardwalk before crossing
When the boardwalk to the island is open, follow the day's park map from an open entrance. Water levels, weather or maintenance may affect access. Cross only when an open sign is posted; if you see a barrier, return along the open lakeside path. Do not climb over barriers or wade to the island.
An easy walk and family outing
The park is a convenient place for a city walk between desert or rural-road trips. With children, use the lake, waterwheel and poplar grove as things to observe, and turn back along the lake if they get tired. Hold children's hands by the lake and at the boardwalk entrance. Food and children's facilities may vary by date, so bring drinking water and a simple snack before entering.
For another visit to Zhongwei's historic centre, see Zhongwei Drum Tower.
Build your day
An approximately one-hour lakeside walk
Enter through an entrance open that day and follow the lakeside path to see Xiangshan Lake, the waterwheel and the poplar grove. Focus on the lake views, then turn back along the same path at a suitable point; there is no need to go to the island. Allow about an hour for a short city stop without a long walk.
A relaxed 1–2 hour visit
If you have more time, walk slowly along the lakeside path and spend longer near the poplar grove and waterwheel. If the island boardwalk is open, add the island viewpoint; if it is closed, spend more time walking or resting by the lake. If you plan to leave from a different exit, first use the park map to confirm that the path connects and that the exit is open, then decide whether to walk through the park one way.
An evening walk and return plan
For an evening visit, choose a shorter stretch of the lakeside path and follow the day's map for the island boardwalk status. Park lighting and services are not guaranteed, so return to an entrance open that day before it gets dark and arrange your ride back in advance.
Get there
Navigate to the northeast corner of Binhe East Road and Gulou South Street
Search for “中卫香山公园” (Zhongwei Xiangshan Park) and check that the map pin is at the northeast corner of Binhe East Road and Gulou South Street. The park has several entrances. Confirm which one is open that day, set it as your navigation destination and follow the signs when you arrive.
Look up the bus route to the park entrance
Search for a bus route to the entrance open that day, and check the walking distance from the stop to the gate. Do not use “Five Museums and One Centre” as the default bus stop for the park. From the stop, follow the map and on-site signs; a straight-line distance does not show the walking route into the park.
Plan separately from each railway station
From Zhongwei Station or Zhongwei South Station, look up a route to the Xiangshan Park entrance open that day. If you take a bus, check the walk between the stop and the entrance. For a taxi, choose a place near the entrance where pickup and drop-off are allowed; use the day's app quote for travel time and fare.
Know before you go
Check admission and activity charges separately
Before entering, read the ticket notice at the entrance or the park's notice for that day. Separately operated activities and facilities may charge extra; follow their own terms. Other city attractions, including Gao Miao, have separate admission rules.
Follow the pet notice at the entrance
Read the pet notice at the entrance. If it still says pets are not allowed, do not bring a pet into the park; other visitors' behaviour does not mean pets are permitted.
Do not cut through the park's woodland to reach the Yellow River
Xiangshan Lake Wetland is near the Yellow River, but an open park path is not necessarily a public route to the riverbank. Do not cut through woods, embankments or river flats to leave the park. If you want to visit the river, find a separate public entrance and route.
