Coastal cliffs at the eastern end of Shengshan
Dongya Cliff is at the eastern end of Shengshan Island. The attraction has about 3 kilometres of granite coastal cliff, a walkway and a white lighthouse. Navigate to “Dongya Cliff Scenic Area” for the main entrance, ticket office and bus waiting area.
The reference adult ticket is CNY 50 and the half-price ticket is CNY 25. From May 1 to October 31, reference hours are 04:00–17:30; from November 1 to April 30 they are about 04:30–17:00. It has its own ticket and entrance, separate from Houtouwan Village and other Gouqi attractions.
A short route takes about 30–50 minutes. Walking to the lighthouse area and returning takes about 1–1.5 hours. An early-morning visit also needs time to arrive, wait and arrange the return vehicle.

Cliffs, walkway and lighthouse
The main experience is the coastal cliff, waves, walkway and white lighthouse. From the open sections you can see the sea and offshore aquaculture areas. Clear weather is useful for understanding the coastline.
The lighthouse and the extended walkway are good photography areas, but wind and wet surfaces change quickly. Stay inside the walkway and viewpoint when taking photographs.
Early-morning views
Dongya Cliff suits an early start. If you want sunrise, estimate the local sunrise time and arrive at least 30–45 minutes early. Clouds, fog and visibility determine whether you see it, so do not treat sunrise as a fixed result.
Visitors who do not need sunrise can choose a time within the opening period when the wind is calmer. Midday light is harder, but the walk is still possible; carry water and use sun protection.
Who is it for?
The attraction suits visitors interested in coastal photography, a short hike and lighthouse scenery. The route is not especially long, but the coast, slopes and cold early wind add effort. Older adults and children should walk to a comfortable point and return.
Build your day
30–50-minute short route
From the main entrance, follow the road to the main viewpoint, see the cliff, lighthouse and sea, then return along the same route. This suits visitors with limited time or energy; first check how long the return to the entrance will take.
Even the short route has slopes and viewpoints. Do not spend too long near the entrance and then rush to the farthest platform; the return along the coast is usually slower than a flat walk.
1–1.5-hour full route
Enter and follow the coastal walkway toward the lighthouse, stopping at open viewpoints before returning to the main entrance. Adjust the number of stops; a full route does not mean standing at every exposed edge.
When the early-morning crowd is heavy, walk toward the lighthouse first and take different photographs on the way back. Leave the attraction before arranging breakfast or the next stop.
Get there
Reach Shengshan first
From Shanghai, Suzhou or Hangzhou, travellers can go to Shenjiawan Passenger Terminal and take a boat toward Gouqi or Shengshan's Ganxie area. From Zhoushan's main island, take a boat from Zhujiajian Wugongshi Pier. Confirm the boat, port and weather together.
Dongya Cliff is not a pier-side attraction. From Ganxie, you still need a local bus or taxi, and early-morning visitors should arrange the vehicle in advance.
From the island centre to the entrance
Island buses can connect Gouqi Dawang, Shengshan and other central areas with Dongya Cliff, according to the day's service. Taxis often use a fixed price rather than a meter. For sunrise, arrange the taxi early and confirm where it will meet you.
Know before you go
Wind, surfaces and warmth
The coastal walkway can be slippery, so wear grippy walking shoes. Early-morning sea wind can feel cold even when daytime temperatures are mild; bring a windproof jacket, water and simple food because supplies inside the attraction are limited.
Stay on the walkway and viewpoints. Do not cross barriers, approach the cliff edge or walk on wet rocks. When waves strengthen, move away from the seaward side immediately.
Weather and opening hours
Fog, rain and strong wind reduce visibility and may affect the boat or the attraction's open areas. For an early route, calculate the boat, vehicle, queue and opening time separately; do not wait in an exposed area simply because you arrived early.
Combining other attractions
Dongya Cliff and Houtouwan Village are both on Shengshan, but they have separate tickets and entrances. After sunrise, return to a safe place for water and rest before deciding whether to visit Houtouwan. Treat the two attractions as two sections with their own transport and rest time.
