A canyon attraction in Aolunbulage Town
Western Dream Canyon, also listed on Trip.com as “West Dreamy Valley,” is in Aolunbulage Town (敖伦布拉格镇), Alxa Left Banner, Inner Mongolia. Check the entrance signs for the route names and open areas that day.
The attraction features red canyon and Gobi scenery and should be planned separately from the Tengger or Badain Jaran desert bases. If you want to visit more than one route, make sure the routes open that day are connected by available transport, then allow half a day.

Choose your visit
The central route: Dream Canyon
The central route is known for rock walls, canyon bends, and the “One-Line Sky” slot (一线天). Some sections are narrow, so walk slowly and follow on-site directions. Light changes with the weather and time of day.
Most of the route is explored on foot, observing the rock layers and canyon. Some passages are narrow; step aside to take photos, let others pass, and follow any one-way signs.
Left and right routes
If the day's guide uses names such as “Alxa Canyon” (阿拉善峡谷) or “Shenshui Cave” (神水洞), use the posted map for each route's starting point, length, vehicle access, and shuttle arrangements. Choose based on road conditions and your group's walking ability.
For the Tengger Five Lakes route from Alxa Left Banner, see Five Lakes route.
Build your day
A short central-route visit
At the entrance, confirm the walking route, whether the sightseeing shuttle is running, where to board for the return, and when the last service leaves. Then go to the central-route starting point shown on site. Follow the open path to the “One-Line Sky” and nearby rock walls, and return from the designated exit. Actual time depends on your walking pace and shuttle schedule.
Once you know the last shuttle time, work backward to choose the latest time to enter the central route, leaving enough time to walk out of the canyon.
Plan a visit to more than one route
If you want to see another type of canyon landscape, find out which routes are open together that day, their starting points, vehicle restrictions, and transport between them. Include the central and outer routes in one visit only if the scenic area's schedule connects them.
Adjust the order to that day's queues, weather, and your group's energy. If closing time is near or the weather worsens, return as directed by site management rather than cutting into the time needed to get back.
Get there
From Wuhai or Bayannur
You can drive or arrange a chartered car from Wuhai or Bayannur. Before setting out, contact the scenic area to confirm the actual meeting point, ticket and entry gate, and road conditions for the day. Set your navigation to the confirmed entrance, not just to Aolunbulage Town (敖伦布拉格镇).
Plan your departure from Wuhai or Bayannur using live routing and road conditions, and agree on the return ride with your driver. If coming from another city, first confirm whether the scenic area or operator provides pick-up service.
Choose transport after you enter
Private cars, sightseeing shuttles, walking routes, and rental vehicles may have different access limits. Use the route map and restrictions at entry to plan each section. If renting a vehicle or taking a shuttle, find out where it returns you and save the driver's or service desk's phone number.
Know before you go
Confirm tickets and opening hours before buying
Ticket types, discounts, vehicle-entry charges, shuttle service, and rental fees vary by product. The listing for your date should explain how to buy, age policies, vehicle restrictions, and the final entry time.
Do not enter during rain
Do not enter the canyon during rain, a severe-convection warning, or a scenic-area closure. If you are already inside, evacuate immediately as directed by staff. Do not wait for the rain to stop in a narrow canyon or a low-lying gully.
Bring water and plan for limited signal
Prepare as if drinking water, toilets, and mobile coverage in the canyon will not be reliably available; ask what facilities are at the entrance before setting out. Bring enough water and food, sun and wind protection, and travel with others. Tell someone in your group your route and expected return time.
