Location, entrance and tickets

Ma Family Manor is at No. 1 Zhuangyuan Avenue, Xijiang Village, Jiangcun Township, Yindu District, Anyang. The main entrance is the archway marked “Ma Family Manor.” An adult ticket costs about CNY 40, and reservations are usually not required; tickets can be bought on site or online. Free parking is available at the entrance.

Summer hours are 08:30–17:30, with possible extensions to 18:00 during parts of the peak season or summer holiday period. Winter hours are 08:30–17:00. The site is usually closed on Mondays except statutory public holidays, and the official WeChat account should be checked before the trip.

Allow 1–1.5 hours for a short visit or 2–3 hours for the complete route. The main content includes the Nine Gates in Alignment, the central courtyards, the three sections and six courtyard lanes, decorative carving, Qing-period living spaces and the Liu-Deng Army Command Headquarters Site.

Nine Gates in Alignment and the official residence

Ma Family Manor has three sections, six courtyard lanes and 22 courtyards. Nine Gates in Alignment is the main axial arrangement. The gates, corridors, windows and wood, brick and stone carvings suit visitors interested in historic architecture and photography; the useful focus is the relationship between courtyards and the details of their decoration.

The manor retains the courtyard layout of a Qing official residence. Walking along the central axis lets you compare the sequence, scale and use of the different courtyards. It suits visitors who enjoy a slower walk, architectural details and local residential history.

A late-Qing lodging site and modern history displays

The manor includes lodging sites associated with Cixi and Guangxu during their westward journey, as well as the Liu-Deng Army Command Headquarters Site. Use the individual displays to understand these periods: the late-Qing lodging site, official residence and Liu-Deng headquarters represent different stages of the manor's history.

The rear garden and the carving details in the courtyards fit best into a complete route. If the command headquarters site is your main interest, confirm its opening status beyond the central-axis visit.

Build your day

1–1.5 hours: the central-axis highlights

Enter through the archway, follow the central axis through Nine Gates in Alignment and the main courtyards, visit the Cixi and Guangxu lodging sites, and then continue to the Liu-Deng Army Command Headquarters Site. On a short visit, focus on the central courtyards and the named historical displays rather than trying to cover every courtyard.

The manor has many courtyards, so the short route uses the central axis as its spine. Return through the main entrance, and arrange food and onward transport outside the manor.

2–3 hours: the three sections, six lanes and rear garden

After the central axis, continue through the courtyards in the three sections and six lanes, looking at the wood, brick and stone carvings and the rear garden. The complete route suits visitors interested in Qing official residences, modern local history and architectural photography.

Driving or taking a taxi from central Anyang takes about 30–40 minutes. By public transport, take Bus 106 to the “Ma Family Manor Junction” stop, then transfer to a local electric cart or walk for a while. The return bus may require a wait.

Get there

Driving, taxis and public transport

Driving or taking a taxi is the simpler way to reach Ma Family Manor, and free parking is available at the entrance. Set the destination to “Ma Family Manor” and enter through the main archway rather than treating the bus stop as the entrance.

On Bus 106, get off at “Ma Family Manor Junction” and continue by local electric cart or on foot. A taxi may not be easy to find for the return journey, so public-transport visitors should include waiting time.

Commercial facilities around the manor are limited. Small stalls near the entrance often sell liangpi and mipi noodles; for a full meal, return to central Anyang. Carry water and simple food for the visit.

Know before you go

Seasonal hours and day-of-visit confirmation

Summer hours are 08:30–17:30, with possible extensions to 18:00 during parts of the peak season or summer holiday period. Winter hours are 08:30–17:00. The site is usually closed on Mondays except statutory public holidays, and the official WeChat account and the site's arrangement for the day take priority over a fixed schedule.

The ticket costs about CNY 40 and reservations are usually not required, but opening and entry arrangements can change with the season, peak periods or holidays. Confirm that the site is open before travelling and finish the return journey before closing.

Walking, food and the surrounding route

The manor is visited on foot through multiple courtyards. Food around the site is limited; the opening and supply at liangpi and mipi stalls vary by day, so a full meal is easier to arrange back in the city.

Ma Family Manor and Lingquan Temple Grottoes both suit a remote-day route focused on historic architecture and stone carving. They are spread apart, so arrange parking and the return vehicle separately; public transport is not a direct-route option.
