The former office and the museum
Baicheng History Museum is housed in the former Liaobei Provincial Government Office at 177 Mingren South Street, Taobei District. The two-storey red-brick building served as the Liaobei provincial government office during the Chinese Civil War. It was restored and opened as the Baicheng History Museum in 2023. Visit for both the historic building and its exhibitions on local Baicheng history.
What to see
The museum's main displays cover Baicheng's history and culture, following a timeline from the Paleolithic era to the development of the modern city. A 2023 Jilin culture and tourism listing called the exhibition “Baicheng Through the Ages” and recorded 13 sections, 45 galleries and more than 500 artifacts or artifact sets. A museum notice in September 2026 used the title “Imprints of Baicheng: History and Humanities.” The names differ by year; this does not establish a formal renaming. Follow the exhibition title and visitor route in use on the day. The nearby Exhibition Hall at the Former Site of the CPC Liaoji Provincial Committee (中共辽吉省委旧址陈列馆) is a separate venue, not part of this museum.
How much time to allow
Allow about one hour for a focused visit. For a chronological visit from early settlements to modern history, plus time to see the building, allow about 1.5 hours. These are itinerary estimates, not standard visit times published by the museum; the actual duration depends on galleries open, any guided explanation and how long you spend reading.

Choose your visit
Who it suits
This museum suits visitors interested in regional Northeast China history, the local history of the Chinese Civil War period and historic architecture. Its exhibitions span several periods: learn how Baicheng developed from early settlements into a modern city, then look at the former office's role during the Chinese Civil War.
A short visit or a closer look
If time is limited, start with the building exterior, then follow the museum guide to selected early-history, Liao and Jin period, and modern-history displays. Allow about an hour and return to the entrance. There is more to read in the galleries; allow extra time to follow the full exhibition timeline and pause at displays that interest you.
Build your day
From the exterior into the historical timeline
At 177 Mingren South Street, first view the full red-brick building from outside. Enter through the entrance open that day and follow staff directions. Start with the museum's prehistoric and early Baicheng displays, then continue in historical order according to the exhibition signs.
Key stops and the return route
Next, visit the displays on the Liao and Jin periods, then continue to modern history and urban development. Floor information is incomplete, so adjust your order to the signs on site; this route follows themes rather than fixed floor numbers. After the sections you planned to see, follow the venue signs back to the entrance. Allow about one hour for a brief visit or 1.5 hours if you read more closely.
Treat the surrounding area as a separate visit
If you also want to visit the Exhibition Hall at the Former Site of the CPC Liaoji Provincial Committee or explore the historic streetscape, treat these as separate stops outside Baicheng History Museum. Check the exhibition hall's opening arrangements and allow extra time. Street sculptures and building façades can be viewed along the way.
Get there
Navigation and local transport
Search for “Baicheng History Museum (白城史馆)” or enter the Chinese address “白城市洮北区明仁南街177号” in your map app. Take a taxi or ride-hailing car; use live navigation for current road conditions and travel time. Check bus routes in a live map before setting out; no reliable current bus route list is available for the museum.
Confirming the entrance
On arrival, follow the “白城史馆” sign and use the entrance open that day. Current information about parking, temporary barriers or entrance changes is not available; check live map notices before driving and follow on-site parking signs. Make sure you are going to 177 Mingren South Street: the former CPC Liaoji Provincial Committee site in the same historic district is a different venue.
Know before you go
Opening and entry requirements
No recent daily opening schedule has been confirmed. A repost of a museum-attributed notice for the 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day listed hours of 8:30 am–5:00 pm and registration with valid identification, but only for September 25–October 7, 2026. Before travelling, check the Baicheng City Museum's latest notice to confirm whether the History Museum is open that day, whether it closes for a lunch break, whether booking or on-site registration is required, and when last admission is. Earlier listings show split opening sessions from Tuesday to Sunday; confirm whether that schedule still applies.
Artifacts and access
A provincial cultural relics list dates the Xianbei gold horse plaque ornament to the Western Han dynasty and names Baicheng City Museum as its collection institution. Whether it is displayed at the History Museum branch must be confirmed with the museum. The valid-ID registration rule came from a holiday notice and may not still apply; visitors using overseas passports or other documents should confirm accepted ID in advance. The former office is a two-storey building, and current information does not confirm an elevator or step-free route. If you need step-free access, ask the museum before visiting.
Weather and planning
Part of the visit is outdoors while viewing the building. In winter or rain, dress warmly, watch for slippery surfaces and keep the exterior visit to what the weather allows. If opening cannot be confirmed before you travel, keep the museum as a backup and choose another city stop with confirmed access.
