Plan at a glance
Location and visitor boundaries
Momoge National Nature Reserve is in Momoge Mongolian Ethnic Township, Zhenlai County. Its roughly 144,000 hectares include wetlands, rivers and grassland. The visitor area is only part of the reserve; plan around sites confirmed open that day, and do not treat the entire reserve as a self-drive area.
Time, tickets and opening
The reserve is extensive, and visitors may enter only areas approved by the operator. Current access and operation for the China Momoge Wetland Museum, Crane Park and red-crowned crane activities remain uncertain; treat them as possible options only until the operator confirms what is open.
If the operator confirms that both the China Momoge Wetland Museum and Crane Park are open to visitors, allow about 2–3 hours. If a wetland observation route is also open, allow 4–6 hours. A previous adult ticket reference was about CNY 60, but this is not a confirmed current price. Confirm current fees, open sites, the visitor entrance and the last entry and exit times with the operator.

Choose your visit
Spring and autumn bird migration
Momoge lies on a migratory bird route. In spring and autumn, look for waterbirds such as Siberian cranes, though sightings vary by year and weather. Birdwatch only from sites and routes the operator has opened to the public. Keep to designated areas and watch from a distance; do not chase or drive birds away.
Crane Park and flight-training activities
Crane Park's flight-training activities involve captive-bred red-crowned cranes, unlike sightings of wild Siberian cranes during migration. Current activities are unconfirmed, so visit only if the operator confirms that the park is open and a demonstration is taking place. Do not feed or touch the birds yourself.
China Momoge Wetland Museum
The China Momoge Wetland Museum has featured a wraparound film, model wetland settings and bird specimens. If the museum is confirmed open to visitors, allow about 30–60 minutes as an introduction before birdwatching. Films, galleries and the visitor route may vary with the day's arrangements.
Who it suits
If the visitor centre and designated birdwatching routes are confirmed open, Momoge may suit visitors interested in migration, wetland ecology and nature photography. Families can combine the museum and Crane Park only when both are confirmed open. Siberian crane sightings depend on season, weather and water conditions and are never guaranteed. Do not make a special trip while public access remains unconfirmed.
For a separate lakeside walk in Zhenlai County seat, see Zhenlai Ring-City National Wetland Park.

Build your day
Two- to three-hour museum and Crane Park route
Use this route only on a day when the operator confirms that both the China Momoge Wetland Museum and Crane Park are open. Enter through the designated visitor entrance, spend about 30–60 minutes at the museum, then go to Crane Park for the red-crowned crane activity scheduled that day. Return along the permitted route. If public access cannot be confirmed, cancel the visit rather than attempting to enter through reserve service roads.
Four- to six-hour wetland route
Before setting out, confirm that both the visitor centre and a wetland observation route are open to the public. Start at the museum if it is open, then continue to one approved wetland site or Crane Park. Allow time to drive between stops and return on the designated route before the last entry or exit time. If access has not been confirmed, leave the reserve interior, observation platforms and cycling tracks out of the plan.
Get there
From Baicheng or Zhenlai
The reserve is in Momoge Mongolian Ethnic Township, about 80 km from central Baicheng. Sites are spread out, and public transport connections are limited; driving yourself or hiring a car is more practical. First confirm that the reserve is open and identify the designated visitor entrance, then set that entrance as your navigation destination. Do not navigate to an unverified checkpoint by searching only for the museum name.
Getting around the reserve
After entering, follow ticketing, checkpoint and staff directions to the sites open that day. Do not assume that every road is open to private vehicles. Cycle only within areas confirmed open, and leave enough time to return before the checkpoint closes; avoid travelling between distant stops near closing time.
Know before you go
Opening, tickets and booking
As checked on October 18, 2026, Trip.com listed the reserve as temporarily closed, while also displaying seasonal opening hours. This inconsistency does not establish the reserve's official operating status. Until the operator confirms current access, do not assume that the visitor centre, museum, Crane Park or any route is open. A consultation number in the Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism's 2025 Zhenlai travel route is 0436-7811902. Before travelling, confirm that the number is still in service and ask about public access to the visitor centre, museum and Crane Park, permitted routes and ticket arrangements.
Season, weather and supplies
Spring and autumn are the main migration periods, but bird sightings vary each year. Wetland mosquitoes are common, so bring repellent in summer. Pack a jacket for cooler, windy weather. Shops are limited inside the reserve; bring enough water and simple food, and download an offline map.
Birdwatching and food
Keep your distance from birds and do not feed wild birds. Supervise children and follow staff directions during any Crane Park activities. Zhenlai County seat has more dining options; food inside the reserve depends on what is operating that day.
