Two entrances and mountain transport
Baishi Mountain has east and west entrances. The east side has more visitor services; take the free shuttle from the visitor center to the east gate. The west side provides another way up the mountain, but it may close temporarily for maintenance or bad weather. Check that your planned entrance is open before driving there.
From the east entrance, choose the Xiangyunmen Cableway or the scenic-area bus to go uphill. The west entrance uses the Cuipingfeng Cableway. The Feiyunkou Cableway is inside the scenic area and connects the middle and lower routes; it is separate from the cableways at the entrances.
Ticket prices and time needed
The reference adult admission price is CNY 135. Students and visitors aged 60–69 may pay a reference half-price fare of CNY 67. Admission is free for visitors over 70 and children under 1.2 m. Entry normally involves ID verification. Foreign visitors should confirm which identification document is accepted when buying tickets. Cableways, the bus, the via ferrata, and the glass walkway may cost extra.
Reference opening hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A middle-route return takes about 3–4 hours; the full loop takes about 5–7 hours. Add time for the shuttle, cableway queues, and travel back down the mountain.

Middle route: marble peaks and cliff walkways
The Shuangxiong Stone route is on the middle section, at about 1,900 m above sea level. It passes through a marble peak landscape, including Shuangxiong Stone, the Shuangxiong Glass Walkway, Shanmengtai, and a cliffside café. The paths are relatively gentle, making this a good option for first-time visitors, families, and people looking to limit steep climbs.
Shanmengtai has a heart-shaped viewing platform overlooking the peaks and, when conditions allow, a sea of clouds. The Shuangxiong Glass Walkway runs along the cliff. Wear the shoe covers required on the glass section; they cost about CNY 10.
Lower route and Feiyunkou
Feihuxia is on the lower route, with cliff faces and gorge views along the way. After entering the lower route from the middle section, there is a long climb back to Jiucaiyuan. The Feiyunkou Cableway can reduce the effort on this climb.
Upper route: Foguang Peak and climbing activities
Foguang Peak is a high-altitude viewpoint for visitors who want to add a climb. The full loop follows the middle route to Feiyunkou, continues through Feihuxia, returns to Jiucaiyuan, and then climbs the upper route to Foguang Peak. Allow about 5–7 hours; this route suits experienced hikers.
The via ferrata and Big Swing are paid activities. The via ferrata has a reference price of CNY 118–138 and a reference minimum age of 14. Check current availability, equipment, and age limits on site.
Build your day
East entrance middle-route return: 3–4 hours
Take the free shuttle from the visitor center to the east gate. Go uphill by either the Xiangyunmen Cableway or the scenic-area bus. At the Jiucaiyuan hub, follow the Shuangxiong Stone route through the middle section. Visit Shuangxiong Stone, the glass walkway, Shanmengtai, and the cliffside café, then return to Jiucaiyuan along the same route and take your chosen transport back down.
This route stays on the middle section and does not include Feihuxia or Foguang Peak. Cableway queues can exceed 1.5 hours on holidays. If you want to avoid a long queue, ask whether the bus is running and how long the wait is.
East entrance full loop: 5–7 hours
With good weather and enough hiking experience, start from the east entrance and follow the middle route to Feiyunkou. Take the cableway or walk down to Feihuxia, then follow the signed trail back to Jiucaiyuan. Continue onto the upper route to Foguang Peak and follow the designated path to the downhill transport point.
The loop involves substantial distance and climbing. Before setting out, check whether the lower and upper trails and cableways are open, when the last downhill service runs, and how to return to the east entrance. If a section is closed, use the middle-route return rather than entering a closed trail.
West-to-east crossing: 4–5 hours
Take the Cuipingfeng Cableway from the west entrance, then follow the middle route east toward the east entrance. Allow about 4–5 hours. This is a point-to-point crossing, so arrange a pickup, transfer, or another vehicle at the end; it is not a short or low-effort route.
Get there
Driving and the east-side shuttle
Set your navigation destination to “Baishi Mountain Scenic Area East Gate.” Driving from Beijing takes about 2.5–3 hours. Parking is about CNY 10 per day; lots A and B are near the east gate. From the visitor center, follow signs for the free shuttle to the east gate.
Public transport from Laiyuan
Take a train to Laiyuan Station or arrive at Laiyuan Bus Station, then take a taxi to the east entrance. A taxi costs about CNY 30. Bus 126 from the old Laiyuan Bus Station is another option, with a reference fare of CNY 5–6. Check the bus schedule and destination for your travel date. For a west-to-east route, confirm whether you can get a transfer to the west entrance.
Know before you go
Trails, weather, and phone signal
The lower route has steep climbs, and long stretches of walking take considerable effort. Wear shoes with good grip and bring water and sun protection. Shorten your route if the weather changes. Mobile signal is weak on the mountain, so download an offline map and agree on a meeting point with your group.
Queues, entrances, and paid activities
Cableway queues can exceed 1.5 hours on holidays. Arriving early or taking the bus may avoid some cableway lines, but check current operations on site. The west entrance may close for maintenance or bad weather; confirm it is open before buying a transport ticket. Do not follow roadside touts to unofficial entrances.
Check prices and availability separately for the glass walkway, via ferrata, Big Swing, and internal transport. The reference opening time is 7:00 a.m.; enter during normal opening hours. If you want to see sunrise from the mountain, first check whether an early-opening event is available.
After hiking, you can eat or rest in Laiyuan County. Options include Podian Huopen Barbecue, Weilai Old Clay-Pot Restaurant, and Shahe Street Night Market. Check current opening hours and prices with each business.
