Plan at a glance

Official visitor center and tourist pier

The official Baiyangdian scenic area is accessed through the visitor center or tourist pier. Main stops include the Cultural Garden and Lotus Grand View Garden. Drivers may be directed to a visitor distribution center about 5 km away, then take a free shuttle to the pier. Follow the day's traffic directions to the distribution center or pier.

Packages, boat tickets, and opening hours

Online packages are about CNY 148–185 and commonly include a return boat ticket and 2–4 attractions. Package contents can change. Before buying, check the outbound and return boat, included attractions, and any extra boat fare. A package may not cover every attraction; follow the stops listed for the ticket you buy.

Reference hours for the visitor center are about 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Lotus Grand View Garden is listed as open until 6:00 p.m. in peak season, roughly May to October. The final boat depends on the day's route. At the pier, confirm the return departure and the last entry time at each stop.

Choose your visit

Lotus Grand View Garden

The garden has lotus ponds, waterside boardwalks, a viewing tower, and aquatic plants. Lotus usually bloom in July and August, when the weather is hottest and crowds are heavier. Morning light is softer for viewing flowers from the boardwalk. If small boats or water activities are operating, check whether they are included in your ticket.

Cultural Garden

The Cultural Garden has a Yanling Militia Memorial Hall, the Kangxi Water Encampment Palace, and exhibits related to Zhang Ga the Little Soldier. It may also have live performances. Show names, times, and opening dates can change; check the day's schedule if you want to see a performance.

Reeds, birds, and lake views

Official sightseeing boats offer views of the reed beds and lake. Early morning is better for birdwatching. Keep quiet, do not use a drone near birds, and stay out of closed water areas. Do not pick lotus flowers or approach boat lanes for photographs.

For a separate stop in the new district, plan a road transfer to Xiong'an Impression.

Build your day

Official scenic-area day route: about 6–8 hours

Follow the day's directions from the visitor center to the tourist pier. Before buying, check which stops are included and the return boat. A suggested route is to take an official boat to the Cultural Garden and spend about 2 hours there, then continue by boat to Lotus Grand View Garden for about 3 hours, and return to the tourist pier. The route and stops depend on the day's boat service and your ticket.

After each stop, check the next departure, waiting area, and which ticket or boat can be used. Attraction visits total about 5 hours; allow another 1–3 hours for boat rides, waiting, and the shuttle from the visitor center. Plan on about 6–8 hours for the day.

Visiting one attraction

For a single stop, choose Lotus Grand View Garden for lotus flowers or the Cultural Garden for the Yanling Militia and local history. Ask the pier whether the boat schedule allows you to visit one attraction and return.

Get there

Driving and the visitor distribution center

From Beijing, drive via the Beijing–Hong Kong–Macao Expressway and Rongwu Expressway. The trip takes about 2 hours. Navigate to “Baiyangdian Scenic Area Visitor Center” or “Baiyangdian Tourist Pier.” Cars may be directed to a visitor distribution center about 5 km away; park there and take the free shuttle into the pier area.

High-speed rail and taxis

From Baiyangdian Railway Station, a taxi to the scenic area or pier takes about 40 minutes. Some Beijing–Baiyangdian train services have changed, so check trains for your date when booking. Taxis may be hard to find at the end of a visit; arrange your return ride in advance.

Know before you go

Boats, stops, and return trips

If you need a separate shuttle boat between stops, ask for its destination, whether it is included in your package, and the fare.

Boats from village piers are operated by separate businesses and are not part of the official tourist-pier packages. Before booking, check the operator's authorization, price, duration, route, attraction fees, and responsibility for the return trip. If access and safety arrangements are unclear, do not book a private boat, pick lotus flowers, enter reed beds, or use a water scooter.

Season, weather, and food

There are more lotus flowers in July and August, but it is hot and crowded. Wear a hat, use sun protection, and bring water. If strong winds, rain, or a temporary boat suspension affects service, follow the pier's directions rather than waiting by the lake for an unconfirmed boat.

Local dishes include braised lake fish, lotus-leaf omelet, and cold lotus-root salad. Restaurants may be busy at peak times; check the menu and prices. If you need to catch a return boat, eat before boarding.
