Plan at a glance

Three separate scenic areas

Yesanpo is in Laishui County, Baoding. Most visits focus on Baili Gorge, Baicaopan, and Yugu Cave. Each has its own entrance, ticket, and experience. Choose which site to visit and set your navigation app to its visitor center or entrance.

Baili Gorge is known for its gorge trails, Baicaopan for forest and alpine meadows, and Yugu Cave for its cave formations. Yugu Cave is about 10 km from Baili Gorge. Plan the road transfer before combining sites in one day.

Tickets and visiting hours

Reference adult ticket prices are CNY 100 for Baili Gorge, CNY 60 for Baicaopan, and CNY 65 for Yugu Cave. Tickets are sold separately. Check eligibility for discounts when you buy.

Choose your visit

Baili Gorge: canyons and waterfalls

Baili Gorge consists of three gorges: Haitangyu, Shixuan Gorge (十悬峡), and Xiezigou. Regular visits mainly cover Haitangyu and Shixuan Gorge. Along the trails, look for Laohuzui (Tiger's Mouth), Yixiantian (One-Line Sky), Huishou Guanyin, streams, and waterfalls. The shaded gorge paths suit visitors interested in geology or a half-day hike. See the separate Baili Gorge guide for route options.

Baicaopan: forest and alpine meadows

Baicaopan suits visitors who want mountain trails, high-altitude meadows, and views across the surrounding peaks. The summit is about 1,983 m above sea level and has the Yilan Sanshan (“View of Three Mountains”) platform. Weather changes quickly at the top, so a sea of clouds is never guaranteed.

Yugu Cave: a cave visit

Yugu Cave has karst formations such as stalactites and stalagmites. It is a good choice for visitors interested in geology or caves, and offers an indoor stop on hot days. The cave is about 14°C; bring a light jacket and follow the marked paths and safety notices.

Build your day

One day: choose a main site

For a first visit focused on gorge walking, make Baili Gorge the main stop and choose a short route or full loop from its dedicated guide. Allow about 3–4 hours for Baicaopan, plus time to travel up and down the mountain and return to the parking area.

Yugu Cave works well as a standalone visit. If you combine it with Baili Gorge or Baicaopan, arrange a vehicle between the sites and plan the order around each site's opening and last-entry times.

Two days or more: visit the sites on separate days

On a multi-day trip, allow half a day to a full day for Baili Gorge, then visit Baicaopan or Yugu Cave on another day. Baicaopan and Baili Gorge offer different experiences; choose between them based on the weather, your comfort with walking, and your interest in caves. Separate days reduce the amount of driving between sites.

Restaurants are available near the scenic areas. Check the menu and how prices are calculated before ordering.

Get there

Driving and parking

Driving from Beijing takes about 2 hours, depending on your starting point and traffic. Set your destination to “Baili Gorge Visitor Center,” “Baicaopan Scenic Area,” or “Yugu Cave Scenic Area,” according to the site you plan to visit.

Budget about CNY 10–20 per day for parking at Baili Gorge; follow the posted rate at the lot. Do not accept offers from roadside touts for unofficial “side entrance” cable cars.

Train and tourist shuttle

Train 6437 has a service from Beijing West to Baili Gorge Station. The journey takes about 2.5 hours, with a reference fare of CNY 7.5. From Baili Gorge Station, take a taxi for about 10 minutes to the scenic area. Check the train and onward transfer for your travel date.

Tourist Shuttle Route 36 near Beijing's Lianhuachi Bus Station runs to Baili Gorge on seasonal or selected dates, not every day. Check the day's departure, ticket arrangements, and return service before you travel.

Know before you go

Walking, weather, and gear

The gorge floor can be slippery when wet, so wear shoes with good grip. Bring insect repellent for the hills and a light jacket for summer visits to the gorge. Baicaopan is a high-altitude mountain area; check the forecast and visibility before setting out, and change your hiking plan in heavy rain or strong winds.

Tourist shuttle and transfers between sites

Public transport between Yugu Cave and the other two scenic areas is limited. Driving or arranging a vehicle in advance is more practical. If you rely on the tourist shuttle, check the day's outbound and return services, including the final departure.

Rafting and water parks along the Juma River are run separately from the Yesanpo scenic areas. Confirm the operator, duration, price, and safety arrangements before deciding whether to add one; these activities are not part of the main scenic-area visit.
