Themes and scope
Baotou Yellow River National Cultural Park Museum is near Xiaobaihe Wetland Park in the Rare Earth High-Tech Zone. Its exhibitions cover changes in the Yellow River, Hetao water management, wetland ecology and Baotou’s history and culture. The museum reopened to visitors on April 12, 2026; access to nearby park paths and the riverbank is arranged separately according to what is open.
Admission and hours
Admission is free; follow the current notice for reservation requirements. For spring and summer 2026, hours are 09:30–12:00 and 14:00–17:30 Tuesday through Friday, and 09:00–18:00 on weekends and regular public holidays. The museum is usually closed on Mondays, and entry stops 30 minutes before closing. Autumn and winter hours may be shorter, so check the current notice before setting out.
How much time to allow
Allow 1–1.5 hours for a focused visit to the governance and ecology exhibitions followed by the humanities galleries. A fuller visit from the introductory hall through the main exhibitions takes about 2–3 hours. If you also want to walk in the park, first check closing time and whether its paths and viewing facilities are open.

Choose your visit
Introductory hall: the Yellow River and Baotou
A curved screen in the introductory hall shows content about Baotou and the Yellow River and serves as the starting point for the visit. Begin with the river’s great bend and its geographic and historical relationship with Baotou before moving on to the themed galleries.
Prehistory and culture on the first floor
The “Prehistoric Yellow River Hall” (史前黄河厅) and “Many Faces of the Yellow River Hall” (千面黄河厅) cover changes in the river basin and the lives of people along it. Short animated films, including “Zhaojun’s Journey Beyond the Frontier” (昭君出塞), are also part of the humanities exhibition. The displays focus on cultural and educational content; use the gallery explanations for context.
Governance, ecology and the future on the second floor
The second-floor galleries move from Hetao water management and Yellow River conservation to future issues, using text, images and digital displays to explain water management and wetland environments. If time is limited, prioritize the Yellow River Governance Hall and the Yellow River Ecology Hall, then return to the first-floor humanities exhibits.
Physical objects and digital displays
The museum combines artifacts, text and images, multimedia and digital interactions to present Yellow River culture. Objects on display include stone axes, pottery and bronze objects, but the selection may change; interactive equipment may also be unavailable. If you want to spend time near the water, confirm the destination and public access separately.
For a separate city museum with local-history, rock-art and thangka galleries, see Baotou Museum.
Build your day
1–1.5 hours: a short governance and ecology route
Start with the Yellow River Governance Hall and Yellow River Ecology Hall on the second floor, then go down to the first-floor humanities area and choose content such as “Zhaojun’s Journey Beyond the Frontier” if it interests you. Shorten the visit according to your interests; keep outdoor park facilities separate from this museum route.
2–3 hours: a full route by theme
Start in the first-floor introductory hall, then visit the “Prehistoric Yellow River Hall” and “Many Faces of the Yellow River Hall” before going up to the second-floor governance, ecology and future exhibits. You can visit the souvenir area before leaving; stamp services depend on that day’s arrangements.
Add a walk in the park
If you want to walk or cycle outside the museum, first check which park paths are open and whether the viewing tower is accessible that day. A museum visit is separate from activities across the park and along the Yellow River; allow time according to the actual path you plan to use.
Get there
Navigate to the museum by the Cultural Plaza
The museum’s main entrance is inside Xiaobaihe Wetland Park, next to the Cultural Plaza. Navigate to Baotou Yellow River National Cultural Park, then find the museum entrance within the park. Follow on-site directions to confirm where to park and which way to walk.
Driving and parking
There is a parking lot at the park entrance; fees and access depend on current on-site arrangements. Set your navigation destination near the Cultural Park, then follow signs to the museum entrance after entering. The walk from the parking lot to the museum follows the route marked on site.
Bus and the final walk
Check buses 56 and 70 for service toward the museum. Depending on direction and the specific service, the route may stop at or terminate at Yellow River National Cultural Park Museum Stop (黄河国家文化公园博物馆站). Follow the map from the stop to the entrance; the walking distance varies, and you do not need to plan around a fixed 2-km walk. Check the last bus carefully for the return trip.
Weekday midday closure
The museum closes for two hours at midday Tuesday through Friday. Include this break when planning your arrival by bus or car. If you plan to eat or walk in the park after a morning visit, check food services and return transport; the museum is closed during this period.
Know before you go
Midday break and weekend hours
Entry stops 30 minutes before closing. If you arrive close to closing time, confirm the entrance arrangements and how much visiting time remains before deciding to go in.
Riverbank paths and viewing facilities
Some paths from the museum toward the riverbank may be restricted. Stay on public open routes; do not cross barriers or enter closed areas. Check on site whether the viewing tower and wetland paths are open. A museum visit does not guarantee access to the water’s edge.
Food and visitor services
The Visitor Center may offer simple meals, coffee or cultural-creative products, depending on that day’s services. Farm-style restaurants along the north bank of the Yellow River are on other roads, not at the museum entrance; check their addresses, driving time and return arrangements separately.
