Plan at a glance
Building A, Wenbo Plaza, Wuyi Street
The Hetao Culture Museum is in Building A of Wenbo Plaza on Wuyi Street, Linhe District. Map listings also give the address as No. 6 Wuyi Street. The plaza contains other public cultural venues, including a library and art museum, so confirm that you are navigating to the museum entrance.
Treat the main galleries as closed for now
A museum notice dated October 6, 2026, said the main galleries would close temporarily from October 8 until further notice; at that time, a traveling exhibition of cultural relics and books was to remain open. As of October 22, no reopening notice for the main galleries had been found, although Ctrip's attraction listing still showed “open.” Until the museum confirms reopening, do not plan around the regular main-gallery route. Check separately whether a temporary exhibition is open on the day of your visit. After reopening, regular hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30; the museum is closed on Mondays.
Hetao history and rock-art themes
The regular exhibitions cover the natural environment of the Hetao region, human history, Yinshan rock art, bronzes, the Great Wall, water conservancy, and modern history. After the main galleries reopen, allow about an hour for key themes or around two hours to explore in more detail. For now, the visitable area depends on the current notice for temporary exhibitions.

Choose your visit
Follow the history of the Hetao region
The museum organizes the region’s ecology, human development, rock art, bronzes, the Great Wall, water conservancy, and cultural history into themed galleries. If time is limited after reopening, start with the Hetao History and Culture exhibition and the Yinshan Rock Art exhibition, then choose other galleries according to your interests.
“Rock Art Through the Ages” (岩刻春秋篇) and outdoor sites
The exhibition introduces rock art from around the world, China, and the Yinshan Mountains. Displays include rock-art objects, rubbings, replicas, and video. Rock-art sites in Urad Middle Banner, Urad Rear Banner, and Dengkou County are separate outdoor destinations among valleys and cliffs; arrange transport and outdoor walking separately.
A few collection highlights
Several collection records illustrate the museum’s range: a rock painting known as the Sun God with a Human Face, a Han-dynasty painted bone ruler decorated with chariots, horses, and a dragon, and a six-piece Han-dynasty bronze field-cooking set, including nested cooking vessels and steaming utensils. These objects can be seen only if their galleries are open and the items are on display at the time. The two “Human-Face Totem and Circular-Hollow Group” rock-art panels are a separate set; use the gallery labels to distinguish them.
Build your day
After reopening: a one-hour highlights route
Once the main galleries have reopened and the exhibition areas are confirmed accessible, enter through the main door, start with the Hetao History and Culture exhibition, then follow the day’s guide to “Rock Art Through the Ages,” and return to the lobby to exit. Allow about an hour. Check the current floor guide for gallery locations.
After reopening: a two-hour thematic route
When the main galleries reopen, follow the current guide through themes such as cultural ecology, early inhabitants, rock art, bronze casting, the Great Wall, water development, and cultural heritage, then return to the entrance. Add the revolutionary history display or a temporary exhibition only if it is open that day. The full route takes about two hours and may change with gallery availability.
Temporary exhibitions during the closure
While the main galleries are closed, plan a visit only after the museum confirms that a temporary exhibition is open that day. Before leaving, ask where it is, when it is open, and how to enter. If this is not confirmed, consider other venues in Wenbo Plaza instead of following the regular main-gallery route.
Get there
Navigate to Building A, Wenbo Plaza
For easier navigation in Chinese map apps, search for “内蒙古河套文化博物院” (Hetao Culture Museum) or “文博广场A座,临河区五一街.” Map listings also give No. 6 Wuyi Street. At the plaza, follow the museum signs; the library and art museum have their own entrances.
Public transport and parking
No reliable bus route to the museum has been confirmed. Use a live map to check the day’s service and walking route to the museum entrance. Ask the museum or check on-site signs for parking location, fees, and space availability at Wenbo Plaza.
Plan connections to other Linhe venues separately
The Natural History Museum is in the Natural Resources Building at the junction of Kaiyuan Road and Xinhua West Street; the Yellow River Water Conservancy Culture Museum is inside the Yellow River Wetland Park in Shuanghe Town. The three museums have separate addresses and entrances. If visiting them on the same day, check driving and transit times for each leg; do not plan as if they share a building or are a short walk apart.
Know before you go
Documents and registration
Available information says regular exhibitions are free, with individual visitors registering on arrival. Confirm the current ticketing and registration process with the museum before setting out. Visitors using a passport should also check which documents are accepted and whether booking is required. Temporary exhibitions follow their own notices.
Gallery locations and guided tours
Inside, follow the latest floor guide, gallery names, and open-area signs; older floor layouts may have changed. Check that day’s arrangements for guided tours, commemorative stamps, and the creative-products shop.
Exhibits, photography, and museum rules
You can photograph the exterior from public areas of the plaza. Follow gallery signs for indoor photography, and do not touch rock art or other cultural relics.
