Plan at a glance

Open district and walking time

Bozhou Old Street is the North Gate Historic District, at No. 2 Xianning Street in Huaxi Theatre Subdistrict, Qiaocheng District. The public lanes are free to enter, and the walking route takes about 1–1.5 hours. That time does not include a full visit to paid attractions such as Huaxi Theatre, Nanjing Lane Money House or Cao Cao Underground Military Tunnel.

The public lanes can be walked all day, but shops, restaurants and paid attractions each have their own business or entry hours. There is no single opening schedule for the whole Old Street.

Street layout and everyday residential life

The Old Street retains flagstone lanes, grey-brick courtyard houses and lanes named after former trades, including Ganyushi (干鱼市) and Fupushi (幅铺市). Residents still live here, so the area suits visitors who want to observe everyday old-city life, look at details in the smaller lanes and photograph the street environment.

The Old Street is about the lanes themselves rather than one paid museum. North Gate Street offers good views down the length of the old streets, while the flagstone lanes offer small details around residents' doorways. The “Bozhou Old Street” wall painting near the entrance is a short stop.

A walking line connecting separate attractions

If you want to visit several old-city attractions on the same day, the Old Street connects Cao Cao Underground Military Tunnel, Nanjing Lane Money House and Huaxi Theatre. Before entering any of them, confirm the separate ticket, final-entry time and areas open that day.

Build your day

The 1–1.5-hour old-city walking line

Start near Cao Cao Underground Military Tunnel, enter North Gate Street opposite it, walk south through side lanes such as Xiaohuazi Street, continue to Nanjing Lane Money House and finish at Huaxi Theatre. This order keeps the route moving forward with less backtracking; add separate visit time if you enter any paid attraction.

The 30-minute street route

With limited time, enter from North Gate Street beside Huaxi Theatre, look at the grey-brick buildings and lanes, then stop at the “Bozhou Old Street” wall painting. This short route covers the public lanes only; visiting the interiors of Huaxi Theatre or Nanjing Lane Money House requires additional time.

Get there

Bus and walking entrances

Bozhou currently has no metro. Take buses such as Routes 1 and 122 and get off at the “Fenghua Middle School” stop, then walk to the area. Set the navigation destination to “Huaxi Theatre,” then enter the Old Street from the North Gate Street archway or around Nanjing Lane.

If driving, use a car park around Huaxi Theatre; the reference rate is about CNY 5 for four hours. Parking charges, entrances and available spaces depend on the day. Walking is the practical way to move inside the Old Street, where flagstone lanes and side alleys are not suited to regular vehicle access.

Know before you go

Residential lanes, breakfast and medicinal herbs

The Old Street remains a residential area. Ask before photographing residents' doorways, courtyards or people, and do not enter private spaces. Breakfast, snacks and shop hours change often; the reference opening time for Xiguan Hongjian Niuroumo (西关洪建牛肉馍) is about 05:00–10:30, so confirm it again on the day if you want breakfast there.

There are Chinese medicinal-herb shops around the Old Street. If you are considering a high-priced purchase, learn about the product, price and seller first.
