Plan at a glance

Two museums at one address

Changchun Museum is at No. 111 Huahong Street in Nanguan District; use Entrance 1. A visit can also include the off-campus branch of Jilin University Museum of Archaeology and Art, which has separate galleries and reservation procedures. The two museums share an address, but manage their exhibitions, reservations, and visitor services separately.

Admission to Changchun Museum is free, as is entry to the branch, but the branch requires an advance reservation. Normal hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 09:00–16:30, with last entry at 16:00; the museums are closed on Mondays. Check holiday notices for changes. If visiting between October 9 and 28, 2026, note that Gallery 4 on the branch’s third floor is closed for upgrades; Galleries 1–3 remain open.

Choose a route for the time you have

Allow about 2 hours for the main museum on the first floor and one of the branch’s bronze, calligraphy and painting, or ceramics exhibitions. Add another 1–2 hours for other permanent exhibitions at the main museum. The branch’s reservations, floor order, and temporary closures affect the visit, so check the date and open galleries first.

Changchun’s local history and fossils

The first-floor exhibitions at Changchun Museum cover early civilization in the city, fossils from the Yitong River basin, and collection art. Start here to learn about local history, then decide whether to spend more time on the branch’s themed exhibitions on the second and third floors.

Explore the branch’s themed exhibitions

The branch displays exhibitions on the second and third floors. “Shanhai Jue” (《山海爵》), a bronze exhibition, is in Gallery 3 on the second floor; the calligraphy and painting exhibition “Wu Dao He Zhi” (《吾道何之》) is in Gallery 2. Gallery 5 on the third floor lists “Chun He Jing Ming” (《春和景明》), an exhibition of fine Ming and Qing ceramics. “Guose Tiangong” (《国色天工》), about traditional Chinese techniques and objects, is in Gallery 4 on the third floor. A museum notice says it is temporarily closed from October 9 through 28, 2026.

For families and visitors interested in artifacts

The main museum’s local history and fossil exhibitions and the branch’s bronze, calligraphy, ceramics, and traditional craft exhibitions cover different subjects. Families can choose two or three galleries based on their interests; visitors interested in artifacts may want more time to read the exhibition notes. Themed exhibitions and corridor displays change, so a gallery listed online may not be open on every visit.

For outdoor sculpture routes and landscaped park grounds, see Changchun World Sculpture Park.

For the provincial collection in Jingyue, at a separate site across the city, see Jilin Provincial Museum.

Build your day

A two-hour short route

Enter through Entrance 1. Start with the open first-floor exhibitions “Early Changchun Civilization” and “Paleontology of the Yitong River Basin,” then go to Gallery 3 on the branch’s second floor for “Shanhai Jue” if it is within your reservation. If calligraphy and painting interest you more, choose “Wu Dao He Zhi” in Gallery 2 instead. Gallery 4 on the third floor is closed through October 28, 2026. Return through Entrance 1.

A three- to four-hour full visit

Start at the main museum on the first floor, then follow the museum map to the branch’s bronze and calligraphy exhibitions on the second floor. Finish with the “Chun He Jing Ming” ceramics exhibition in Gallery 5 on the third floor. If Gallery 4 has reopened after its scheduled upgrade, you can also visit the “Guose Tiangong” traditional crafts exhibition there. This route covers Changchun Museum and Jilin University's off-campus museum branch at No. 111 Huahong Street. It does not include the university's main museum on campus.

Tours, stamps, and a break outside

If you want a guided tour or commemorative stamp, check the day’s activities at the service desk after entering. After the visit, take a walk in nearby Friendship Park. For a meal, search the map for the Satellite Square or Changchun University area and choose a place that is open that day.

Get there

Find Entrance 1 at No. 111 Huahong Street

Navigate to “Changchun Museum” or “No. 111 Huahong Street,” then follow the Entrance 1 signs. The off-campus branch’s address is also No. 111 Huahong Street; make sure the map does not direct you to the university’s main museum on Qianjin Street.

Rail transit and buses

Take Changchun Rail Transit Line 1 to Satellite Square Station (卫星广场站), then use a map to navigate to Entrance 1 at No. 111 Huahong Street. For buses, enter Entrance 1 as the destination when searching for a route.

Taxis and parking

For a ride-hailing car, enter No. 111 Huahong Street or Changchun Museum as the destination, then follow the signs from the drop-off point to Entrance 1. Before driving, ask the museum about the car park entrance, spaces, and fees. On weekends and public holidays, consider taking a taxi; walking between attractions after parking at the sculpture park or Jilin Provincial Museum is not recommended.

Know before you go

Reserve the branch and check ID requirements

The off-campus branch of Jilin University Museum of Archaeology and Art requires reservations for both individual and group visits. Show the reservation verification code at entry. Changchun Museum and the branch are both free at the same address, but reservations are made separately. Overseas visitors should check the official reservation page to see whether a passport can be entered. If the accepted ID types are not listed, call the branch at 0431-85167652; the group reservation number is 131-7448-9990.

Closures and temporary galleries

The museums close on Mondays. On regular open days, last entry is at 16:00 and closing is at 16:30. Holiday notices may change opening days. A museum notice dated October 9, 2026, says Gallery 4, “Guose Tiangong,” on the branch’s third floor is temporarily closed through October 28; Galleries 1–3 remain open. Check a new notice for Gallery 5 and the reopening date.

Floors, exhibitions, and accessible routes

The main museum and Jilin University branch are in the same building, but different institutions manage their galleries. Exhibits change; if you want to see a particular artifact, check the current exhibition list. If you need step-free access, ask the museum in advance about elevator access and routes between galleries.
