Plan at a glance

Animals by day, Journey to the West at night

Changchun Zoological and Botanical Park is at No. 2121 Ziyou Avenue in Nanguan District. Daytime visits focus on animals and garden walks; the night session centers on Journey to the West-themed scenery, stage performances, and interactive activities. Both sessions are in the same park, but they have different areas, hours, and tickets. Visit during the day if you want to see the animals; a night ticket may be enough if your main goal is the Journey to the West program.

The current listings show daytime hours of 08:30–16:30 and night hours of 16:30–21:00, with night entry usually stopping at 20:30. Daytime animal houses close at 16:30. A day ticket alone does not admit you to the night session; check the terms of the day-and-night ticket you select.

Choose one main focus

For a first visit, allow 2–3 hours for the main animal areas, or 2–3 hours at night for a themed show and the park scenery. If combining both sessions, allow time for the 16:30 transition and choose which animals or performances are your priority.

Popular characters, stages, parades, and temporary programs can change. Plan around the Journey to the West settings and that day’s show schedule. Popular spots may be crowded; queue times depend on visitor numbers.

Choose your visit

Daytime animal viewing

Use the park map to choose animal areas during the day, allowing time for indoor houses and walking between them. Whether a particular animal is visible depends on its condition, weather, care arrangements, and gallery maintenance.

Journey to the West at night

At night, plan around the themed settings near the South Gate and the day’s program. Check entrance directions, stage locations, and performance times on site, then choose one or two priorities. Xuebing Hou (雪饼猴) and Tang Monk (唐僧) are character roles; performers and interaction times can change. Queue according to visitor flow and staff directions.

See both day and night sessions

The daytime animal areas and night entertainment meet at around 16:30, so finish the animal areas you most want to see before the transition. If you can choose only one session, daytime suits families with children or visitors focused on animals; choose the night session for stage shows, lanterns, and character interactions.

For a separate drive-through tiger safari and panda house, see Jilin Siberian Tiger Park (Changchun).

Build your day

A 2–3-hour daytime route

Enter through the South Gate if it is open that day, or use the entrance printed on your ticket. First check the layout of the animal houses and their closing times, then visit one area continuously and head toward the exit. Daytime admission ends at 16:30; confirm last entry and each house’s closing time on the ticket page and on-site signs.

A 2–3-hour night route

After entering, see the themed settings first, then choose a main stage or interactive area from the program. Allow time to walk and queue. Shows may overlap, so adjust your plan using announcements, the map, and staff directions.

Combining the day and night sessions

A full-day visit involves substantial walking. Allow time for meals, rest, and nighttime crowds. First check the combination ticket’s time window, whether you can remain in the park after daytime hours, and whether the night session requires a second ticket check. If you need to leave and re-enter, allow time for another queue and entry check.

Get there

Rail transit and the South Gate

Take Changchun Rail Transit Line 1 to Northeast Normal University Station (东北师大站), then use live navigation to reach the gate open that day. Public directions often connect Exit B with the South Gate. The distance from a metro exit to the park boundary is different from the distance to a specific gate. If the night ticket specifies the South Gate, navigate to that entrance rather than relying on a general “700 m walk” estimate.

Check bus routes for the gate you need

Transport listings include buses 25, 160, 227, 228, and 238 for the South Gate area. Use a live map for current routes and stops, and for the walk from your stop to the South Gate.

Driving and other city attractions

Before driving, check which car parks are available and what they charge. Do not assume that spaces at Nanling Stadium or Xuelifang are open to park visitors. The No. 54 Tourist Tram and The Hill are in the Hongqi Street area; plan a separate city transfer if visiting them on the same day.

Know before you go

Day, night, and combination ticket rules

Current ticket listings show adult admission at around CNY 30 for daytime entry, CNY 49 for night entry, and CNY 69 for a day-and-night ticket. Concessions vary by age, height, student status, and ID eligibility. Night discounts for children may differ from daytime rules; review the ticket page for prices, ID requirements, valid dates, last entry, and cancellation terms before buying.

Animal houses and shows have separate schedules

Daytime animal viewing runs about 08:30–16:30, while night entertainment starts around 16:30. The night session does not include all animal houses, and a daytime ticket does not include the Journey to the West program. Combination-ticket holders should check whether they may stay in the park between sessions, need a second ticket check, or can re-enter after leaving.

Check that day’s shows and interactions

Programs, performers, parades, and temporary activities change. Consult the park’s official account or ask entrance staff for that day’s schedule.

Safety, animal welfare, and park boundaries

Follow barriers and staff directions. Do not chase, hit, or feed the animals; interact with performers according to the on-site arrangements. When it is crowded, agree on a meeting point with children and keep stage routes clear.
