Plan at a glance

A one-way water-and-land loop

Chibi Hanging Waterfall is in Aozhi Village, Yanggao Township, Pingshun County. Enter through the “Taihang Chibi Hanging Waterfall” Visitor Centre. A complete loop takes about 4–5 hours and links water sections, the Danxia cliff trail, and the scenic area’s internal transport. When the rear section is under construction, follow the one-way loop and do not plan to turn around and retrace the route.

Tickets and operating hours

The ticket package is around RMB 158 and includes admission, a one-way black-awning boat, a round-trip electric shuttle, a one-way sightseeing train, and a one-way bamboo raft. From 1 April to 31 October, the usual hours are 07:00–18:00; from 1 November to 31 March, they are about 08:00–17:30. Confirm the package contents, price, seasonal opening, and whether online tickets need to be bought about one hour in advance.

Choose your visit

The Danxia cliff trail and the black-awning boat

The first part of the full visit usually follows about 3 km of suspended Danxia cliff trail, with views of the red cliffs and river. The black-awning boat is usually scheduled after the sightseeing train, serving as the final water transfer and often carrying visitors towards the exit. The boarding point and direction may change with operations, so follow the day’s instructions; narrow sections of the trail are not places to stop for a long time.

Waterfalls and water-based rides

Chibi Hanging Waterfall is the main stopping point, and its width can reach about 118 metres during the high-water season. The electric shuttle covers some road sections, while the bamboo raft and sightseeing train are generally in the latter half of the route. Water flow and the operation of the boat and bamboo raft can change with the season, water level, and construction.

Who it suits

The cliff trail has relatively few steps, so the package loop can work for older visitors and children, but the full visit still requires 4–5 hours of continuous sightseeing. Visitors focused on photography can spend more time at the waterside platform, on the trail, and during the boat section. Allow time for narrow-path traffic and queues for the rides.

Build your day

Full loop: follow the sequence forward

The common full route is: entrance → Danxia cliff trail → Chibi Hanging Waterfall → Tianti Waterfall → bamboo raft → Happy Island → sightseeing train → black-awning boat → exit. Allow about 4–5 hours. The electric shuttle covers some sections along the way, while the exact boarding points and ride order follow the operating arrangements on the day.

How construction may affect the route

When the rear section is under construction, the scenic area operates as a one-way route. The direction of the black-awning boat, bamboo raft, and sightseeing train follows the entrance instructions for that day. Before buying a package, check which rides are one-way or round-trip and how the return works; if one section is suspended, ask at the entrance about the replacement route and return arrangement.

Waterfall viewing and photography

The waterside platform directly in front of the waterfall gives a full view, while the Danxia trail frames the red cliffs and river. When spray is heavy, protect your phone and carry a light rain layer. On narrow sections, stand on the inside at an open spot and do not approach the edge or block visitors behind you.

Get there

Drive to the Visitor Centre

Navigate to “太行赤壁悬流” (Taihang Chibi Hanging Waterfall). The Visitor Centre has a car park, with parking around RMB 10 per visit and generally ample spaces. The scenic area is around Aozhi Village; after entering the mountains, follow the signs for the Visitor Centre and car park rather than using the entrance names for Tongtian Gorge or Huangyadong.

From Changzhi East Railway Station

From Changzhi East Railway Station, you can carpool or take a tourist shuttle; the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Services and the return schedule depend on the date. After reaching the scenic area, its internal rides still operate as part of the one-way loop, and vehicles from outside the scenic area do not provide a shuttle from the end of the trail.

Know before you go

Ticket package and ride availability

The package includes a one-way black-awning boat, round-trip electric shuttle, one-way sightseeing train, and one-way bamboo raft. Concessions such as those for children under 1.2 metres and visitors aged 65 or above may apply only to admission; check separately whether transport rides still need to be purchased. Construction, seasonal water levels, and weather may affect the water rides, and an admission-only ticket does not guarantee the complete loop.

Trail and spray safety

The Danxia trail is about 3 km long. Stop to the side in narrow sections, and do not linger at the boat entrance, bamboo-raft boarding points, or trail bends. Waterfall spray can be heavy in summer, so protect phones, cameras, and children’s clothing. After rain or when visibility is poor, follow closures and capacity controls on site rather than approaching the waterfall edge for photos.

Aozhi Village and food

Aozhi Village is right by the scenic area and works for a short stop before or after the visit. Dayun Temple suits visitors interested in local history, but it requires a separate drive and is outside the Chibi Hanging Waterfall route. There are farmhouse restaurants in the village, and Wusheng Shifu and Jinwei Noodle House are options; opening status is not fixed, so finish your meal before the last internal transport if you need to make the return journey.
