Plan at a glance
Plan separately for the main museum and branch
Lushun Museum has a main museum and a branch. The main museum focuses on its historic building and collection; the branch offers more on the ancient history of the Dalian area. Allow about 1.5–2 hours to visit the two; time to transfer between them is additional.
The main building is also worth noticing: its Russian-style exterior, wooden display cases, marble staircase and dome form part of the visit. The permanent exhibitions are generally free; special exhibitions may charge separately. Check the exhibitions and reservation requirements for the day before entering.
Reservations and entry rules by document type
Visitors using a mainland Chinese Resident Identity Card should reserve through the official WeChat mini program, “掌上旅博” (Zhangshang Lvbo), under their real name. Reservations are available for dates up to seven days ahead, including the current day. One reservation covers both the main museum and the branch. Holders of foreign passports, Mainland Travel Permits for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, Mainland Travel Permits for Taiwan Residents, or foreign permanent residence ID cards do not need to book in advance; present a valid document for on-site registration. Check opening arrangements and special events for your visit date.

Architecture and collection in the main museum
The second-floor gallery features the Lü Ding, a ritual bronze vessel from the Western Zhou dynasty. The display cases also include bronze objects from Luo Zhenyu’s collection. Read the labels for information about the objects’ dates and inscriptions. The staircase, columns and dome are also part of the main museum’s architecture.
The Xinjiang mummy exhibit is another major display, and photography is prohibited in that gallery. Follow the signs, keep quiet and respect the exhibits and other visitors. Do not use flash or take photos in areas where photography is prohibited.
Add the branch for local history
The branch offers a further look at ancient civilizations in the Dalian area, complementing the artifacts and architecture at the main museum. Public tours may be offered, but their times and daily availability need to be checked on site; ask about the schedule before deciding whether to make the trip to the branch.
Build your day
Start at the main museum, then decide whether to visit the branch
On arrival, visitors with a reservation should enter according to their booking. Holders of foreign passports and other documents eligible for reservation-free entry can register on site. Start with the main museum’s key galleries and architectural spaces, then decide whether to continue to the branch based on its opening arrangements. Transfers between the two and travel to and from Lushun are additional; adjust your time according to what is open.
If a public tour at the branch is in progress, check the schedule before deciding whether to wait. Do not build the route around an unconfirmed tour time, and leave enough time to return to the exit before closing.
Visit the surrounding Taiyanggou district separately
Lushun Museum is in the Taiyanggou historical district. After the museum, you can walk among nearby historic buildings that are open to the public. Baiyu Hill and the Russo-Japanese Prison Site Museum are separate attractions, each with its own transport, booking and opening arrangements. Plan them separately; neither is part of the museum grounds or ticket.
Get there
From Lushun Station to Lenin Street
From central Dalian, take Metro Line 1 toward Hekou (河口). Transfer to Line 12 at Hekou and get off at Lushun (旅顺) Station. From there, take a taxi for about 10 minutes to the area around No. 42 Lenin Street. Allow extra time for the metro transfer and the journey within Lushun. Before returning, check where ride-hailing cars pick up and how long you may need to wait.
