Plan at a glance

Follow the one-way route through the former prison

Lushun Russo-Japanese Prison Site Museum focuses on the prison buildings, cells and related historical exhibits. Visitors follow a one-way route through the museum. Allow about 1.5–2 hours for the full visit. The usual visitor route begins at the former Body Search Room (检身室), where prisoners were once searched, before continuing through the cells, interrogation room, solitary confinement cells and execution grounds. It then follows the signs to the exit. Follow the route open that day and the signs on site.

The site preserves and displays spaces associated with imprisonment, punishment and death. The material is heavy; allow time for a quiet visit. Families with children can learn about the exhibits first and decide whether the visit is suitable.

Free admission and reservation rules

Since 21 July 2026, individual visitors have been required to make a real-name reservation through the museum’s official mini program. You can select a date within the next seven days, including the current day. It has not been confirmed whether foreign passports can be entered in the mini program or whether another reservation or document-check option is available. Visitors using foreign documents should contact the museum before setting out; do not assume the reservation-free rule at Lushun Museum applies here.

Choose your visit

Architecture and cell spaces

The brick walls show construction and expansion from different historical periods. Cells, solitary confinement cells and other spaces remain along the visitor route. Follow the exhibit labels to learn about the buildings’ uses and history, stay on the designated route and do not enter closed spaces or cross barriers.

Exhibits on An Jung-geun

The museum has an exhibit area about An Jung-geun and the history of his imprisonment and execution here. Exhibits in the former Body Search Room, interrogation room and execution area address violence and death. Keep your voice low, read the exhibit text and museum notices, and avoid sensational photography or descriptions.

Build your day

Allow time for the full one-way visit

Arrive for your reservation and follow the signs through the historical areas to the exit. Allow about 1.5–2 hours for the full route, excluding reservation checks, queues and travel within Lushun. Add time if you want to stop and read the exhibit labels.

Visit other places in Lushun afterward

After leaving, you can plan a separate visit to Lushun Museum or other historic sites in Taiyanggou. Lushun Museum and the Russo-Japanese Prison Site Museum are separate attractions with different entry and reservation rules. A reservation or entry arrangement for one does not automatically apply to the other. Check each museum's opening hours separately.

Get there

From Lushun Station

From central Dalian, take Metro Line 1 toward Hekou (河口). Transfer to Line 12 at Hekou and get off at Lushun (旅顺) Station. From there, take a taxi for about 10 minutes to the area around No. 139 Xiangyang Street, Yuanbaofang. Allow extra time for the metro transfer and the journey within Lushun. Check the pickup point and wait time for the return trip.

Know before you go

Check reservations, identification and closure days

Admission is free, but individual visitors must make a real-name reservation under the system introduced on 21 July 2026. You can book a date within the next seven days, including the current day. It has not been confirmed whether foreign passports can be entered in the mini program or whether another reservation or document-check option is available; visitors using foreign documents should contact the museum before traveling. The consultation numbers listed in a September 2026 notice are 0411-86629279 and 0411-86610675. Do not apply Lushun Museum’s reservation-free rule for foreign passports here.

The museum is usually closed on Mondays, with possible changes on public holidays and during summer. Peak-season hours (May–October) are 09:00–16:30, with last entry at 16:00. Off-season hours (November through April) are 09:00–16:00, with last entry at 15:30. Summer extensions apply only on the specific dates in the museum’s notice, not every July and August. Check the notice for your visit date.

Respect the site and exhibit rules

Keep quiet during your visit. Check gallery signs before taking photos and turn off the flash. The buildings may feel stuffy in summer; bring water and adjust your pace to how you feel. If you become uncomfortable, pause and ask staff for help.

Exhibits on punishment and death may be upsetting for some visitors. Before bringing children, explain what they may see and decide based on their age and comfort. Follow the museum’s instructions on site.
