How to Visit
1

Book a separate Naval Battle Museum time slot and enter through its main gate

The museum is on Huandao Road, Weiyuan Island, Humen Town. Admission is free but requires a real-name booking. From Humen Railway Station, a taxi is practical; otherwise, use local buses that stop near the Naval Battle Museum on the day.

Tip:This is not the same entrance as the Lin Zexu Memorial Hall main museum. A main-museum booking cannot be used as a Naval Battle Museum booking.
2

Finish the indoor displays before deciding whether to continue to Weiyuan Fort

See the Opium War exhibition and the Humen naval-battle panorama first, then walk from the museum area to Weiyuan Fort. Allow around 2.5-3.5 hours for the museum and fort together.

Tip:There are exposed walking sections from the entrance and parking areas to the galleries and fort. Completing the indoor highlights first prevents heat, fatigue, or closing time from causing you to miss the main content.
3

Treat Weiyuan Fort as an extension of the same afternoon, not as an attraction beside the main museum

If you also plan to see Weiyuan Fort and the Humen Bridge direction, enter the Naval Battle Museum early enough in the afternoon and walk directly on after the museum visit.

Tip:The fort is exposed to strong sun and sea weather. Arriving too late can leave too little time for the historic site or a relaxed return journey.
4

Plan around the Tuesday exhibition-building closure and the outdoor route

Treat Tuesday as a day not to schedule the exhibition building. If that is your only possible day, confirm which areas are accessible and consider making the visit a shorter stop at Weiyuan Fort and the surrounding coast.

Tip:Outdoor access does not mean the main galleries are open. Arriving to find the core displays closed greatly reduces the value of this stop.
Highlights
  • The Humen naval-battle panorama uses immersive display techniques to explain the geography and events of the 1841 battle.
  • The museum faces the Pearl River Estuary, closely linking the indoor history displays with the coastal-defence landscape.
  • Weiyuan Fort is reachable on foot from the museum, allowing visitors to connect the exhibition with the real defensive terrain.
  • The exposed paths and coastal views suit a late-afternoon stop, but the indoor museum should come first.
Insider Tips

The exhibition building is generally closed on Tuesdays, though public-holiday arrangements may differ. Confirm the day's opening time in the booking system before setting out.

The walk from parking areas to the galleries and on to the fort has little shade. In summer, avoid midday and carry sun protection and water.

Toilets and food options around the galleries are limited, so deal with supplies before entering the exhibition area.

If your energy is limited, leave directly after the museum rather than forcing yourself to complete the fort route just because it is nearby.

On weekends, enter near opening time, see the indoor galleries first, and leave the fort and Pearl River Estuary views for the afternoon.
