How to Visit
1

Leave Xiahe by self-drive or private car with a driver.

Set Ganjia Grassland as your destination and allow time for the return journey and roadside stops. The grassland is spread along the road, so public transport is not practical for choosing good stopping points or managing your return.

Tip:This is not a single scenic park with one gate, fixed route, or shuttle system. Without a vehicle, it is difficult to visit safely and at a relaxed pace.
2

Follow the main road across the grassland and stop only at safe paved shoulders or clear parking areas.

Focus on the road scenery, streams, grazing animals, and distant mountains. Walk only on public paths, accessible roadside ground, or grassland where a herder has clearly given permission.

Tip:Do not drive off the paved road or onto the grass for photos. Wet ground and vehicle tracks can damage pastureland and may leave an ordinary car stuck.
3

Treat this as a relaxed half-day grassland drive, not a full Ganjia sightseeing circuit.

Allow 1-2 hours in softer morning light or before returning in late afternoon. This page does not make Bajiao Ancient City, Baishi Cliff, or Baishi Cliff Monastery required stops; they belong to the multi-stop Ganjia Secret Realm route.

Tip:If rain, snow, fog, or strong wind arrives, shorten the stop and return on the main road. Cloudy weather may reduce the views, but it is not worth using unfamiliar dirt roads for one photo.
Highlights
  • A highland grassland drive with short walks, rather than a fixed sightseeing route.
  • Meadows, streams, livestock, and distant mountains can be seen in the same roadside landscape.
  • No single visitor route means you can adjust your stops for weather, energy, and light.
  • Unlike Ganjia Secret Realm, this visit focuses on the grassland itself rather than a day linking ancient ruins, cliffs, and a monastery.
Insider Tips

Self-driving or hiring a car is much more practical than public transport; ask your driver in advance about the return plan, fuel stops, and safe places to park.

Pastureland is not an open parking area. Stay beside the road near fences, livestock passages, or private camps unless you have permission to enter.

Bring a windproof warm layer, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen even in summer; UV exposure is strong and highland weather changes quickly.

Do not leave the main road after rain, early snow, or when the ground is muddy; ordinary cars are unreliable on grass and dirt tracks.

Buy water and simple food in Xiahe or another town before setting out. Do not assume there will be dependable restaurants or toilets deep in the grassland.
