How to Visit
1

Choose the ticket type and add-ons first

If you only want the outside scenery, the basic entry ticket is CNY 10. Most visitors are better served by a package that includes the water cave, dry cave, and round-trip sightseeing shuttle. The listed package price is CNY 80, with online tickets often from CNY 75. Bamboo rafting and high-altitude gliding are add-ons.

Tip:For a first visit, prioritize the water cave, dry cave, and waterfall area before buying every add-on.
2

Reach it by rail transit or self-driving

By public transport, take Metro Line 3 to Zhongcaosi Station, transfer to Line S1 to Tianhetan Station, then walk about 500 meters from Exit A1. By car, it takes about 30-40 minutes from central Guiyang.

Tip:Tianhetan is now easier for travelers without a car than it used to be. You do not have to hire a car.
3

Follow the water cave, dry cave, waterfall order

After entering, take the sightseeing shuttle to the pier, ride the boat through the water cave, walk through the dry cave, then continue to the calcified waterfall area and Wolong Waterfall before resting at Guiyang Story Street.

Tip:This order reduces backtracking and puts the main karst experience first.
4

Save energy for the cave walk and steps

The water cave boat ride is relatively easy, but the dry cave involves walking and stairs. The ground inside can be wet. Elderly visitors, children, and anyone with knee issues should slow down.

Tip:Non-slip shoes and a light jacket matter more than photo outfits. The cave is cool and damp.
5

Start in the morning and follow the open route in rainy season

In peak season from April to October, opening hours are 08:30-18:00. In low season from November to March, opening hours are 09:00-17:00. The core visit takes about 3-4 hours, so a morning start is safer.

Tip:During rainy season, if water levels, paths, or cave areas are controlled, do not enter closed areas.
Highlights
  • The water cave boat ride is Tianhetan's core experience and works well for first-time karst cave visitors.
  • The dry cave takes more energy but shows a fuller cave space.
  • The calcified waterfall area and Wolong Waterfall fit naturally after the cave route.
  • Line S1 makes Tianhetan much more practical as a same-day trip without a car.
  • Guiyang Story Street is useful for water, simple food, and rest, but it is not the main reason to visit.
Insider Tips

Tianhetan takes more energy than a city-center stop, so leave in the morning.

Bring non-slip shoes and a light jacket for the cool, wet cave sections.

If traveling with elderly visitors or children, choose the ticket with the sightseeing shuttle.

If time is limited, keep the water cave, dry cave, and waterfall area, and skip optional add-ons.

In rainy season, stay on open paths and do not explore water areas or closed routes by yourself.
