One entrance and the mountain route
Taihang Wuzhi Mountain is in Nanzhuang Village, Henandian Town, She County. The entire scenic area has one entrance at the visitor center, where you buy and show tickets. Take the sightseeing bus to Five Elements Plaza, the starting point for hiking and the cableway. The summit highlights are Five Fingers Peak and the Alpine Meadow.
A round-trip sightseeing-bus ticket costs about CNY 30; some sales channels or time slots offer one-way tickets. The visitor center and Five Elements Plaza are about 3 km apart, with a substantial uphill section between them. Most visitors use the sightseeing bus for this transfer. The cableway from near the plaza reaches the Alpine Meadow area; hiking, the cableway, and the bus cover different sections.
Tickets, seasons, and time needed
Admission costs about CNY 70 in peak season (April 1–October 31) and CNY 35 in the off-season (November 1–March 31). The scenic area is open 08:00–18:30 in peak season and 08:30–17:30 in the off-season; the hiking route usually stops admitting visitors at 16:00.
Visitors aged 65–69 receive half-price admission. Visitors aged 70 and above and children under 1.2 m enter free; check that day’s ticket rules before holidays.
The easier cableway route takes about 3–4 hours, the highlights hike via Yixiantian takes about 4–5 hours, and a full hike takes about 6–8 hours. Visit duration depends on stops and which attractions are operating that day; check the route and entry cutoff before setting out.

Five Fingers Peak, the reclining Buddha, and the cliffside walkway
The main summit of Five Fingers Peak is about 1,283 m above sea level. From the viewpoints, you can see a natural reclining Buddha about 3 km long. The red cliffside walkway is built along the precipice and offers open views of the valley and rock face on clear days; cloud and mist can block the distant scenery.
The Alpine Meadow at the summit covers about 1,000 mu, with wildflowers in summer. For views of Five Fingers Peak and the reclining Buddha, visit the viewpoint near Wuzhi Zen Temple in the morning. Before staying for sunset over the meadow, check the day’s sunset time and the last cableway down.
Yixiantian and the effort involved
Yixiantian has about 1,300 stone steps and a slope approaching 70 degrees, making it one of the steepest sections. Choose this route if you are comfortable with a sustained climb; older visitors, children, and those looking to reduce uphill walking can take the sightseeing bus and cableway.
Wuzhi Zen Temple and the Lecture Platform are rest stops along the climb. Five Elements Plaza has Journey to the West-themed sculptures, including a large golden staff. Families can also take the cableway and use the flatter paths at the summit, though some walking remains on the round trip.
Build your day
A 3–4-hour easier route using the cableway
Take the sightseeing bus from the visitor center to Five Elements Plaza, then ride the cableway to the Alpine Meadow area. Walk around the meadow and the Five Fingers Peak viewpoints, return by cableway, and take the sightseeing bus back to the visitor center. Allow about 3–4 hours; this route reduces sustained climbing.
The cableway ticket does not include the 3 km transfer between Five Elements Plaza and the visitor center; most visitors use the sightseeing bus for this section. On holidays, sightseeing-bus queues may exceed one hour.
A 4–5-hour highlights hike and a longer trek
Take the sightseeing bus from the visitor center to Five Elements Plaza. Follow Wukong Valley on foot through Yixiantian, then continue to Wuzhi Zen Temple and the Lecture Platform. Visit the Alpine Meadow, descend by cableway, and take the sightseeing bus back to the visitor center. Allow about 4–5 hours; the steps at Yixiantian are steep, so decide whether to use this route based on your ability.
The 6–8-hour full route starts with a hike uphill from the visitor center and continues along the cliffside walkway, past Wuzhi Zen Temple and South Heaven Gate, to the Alpine Meadow, then back down on foot. It is physically demanding. The hiking route usually stops admitting visitors at 16:00, so watch the time.
Get there
Driving and public transport from Handan
Driving from Handan via the Qinglan Expressway takes about 1.5 hours. Navigate to “Taihang Wuzhi Mountain Scenic Area Visitor Center”; parking costs about CNY 10 per day. The scenic area is in Henandian Town, She County; the county seat is not the trailhead.
From Handan Bus Terminal, take bus 812 to She County Bus Station, about two hours and CNY 24. Then take a taxi for about 10 minutes and CNY 12. The scenic area is about 5.8 km from the county seat and has no direct public bus.
The three-kilometer transfer after entry
The roughly 3 km transfer between the visitor center and Five Elements Plaza includes a substantial uphill section, so most visitors take the sightseeing bus. The sightseeing bus costs about CNY 30 round trip, with one-way tickets for about CNY 10 offered at some times. A one-way cableway ticket costs about CNY 35–50, or CNY 70–90 round trip; it runs from Five Elements Plaza to the Alpine Meadow area.
Know before you go
Night sessions, shows, and queues
Night sessions may operate on some summer dates; check the current season’s announcement for dates, prices, and program details. Concerts and fireworks depend on the day’s schedule. The Monkey King welcome, mountain patrol, and Journey to the West activities have multiple showtimes that may change, so do not plan around a fixed daily schedule.
On holidays, sightseeing-bus queues may exceed one hour. Online tickets sometimes need to be bought two hours ahead. Check night-session tickets, regular admission, the cableway, and sightseeing bus separately; prices change with the season and platform promotions.
Footwear, temperature changes, and supplies
May through October is a good time for hiking. In summer, the mountain can be about 10°C cooler than the foot of the mountain; autumn brings red leaves. Wear shoes with good grip on the steep Yixiantian steps and cliffside walkway. The walkway has clearer views on sunny days, and mountain temperatures can vary, so bring a windproof layer.
There are few supply points on the mountain. Water costs about CNY 6 and instant noodles about CNY 10; bring water and snacks for your route.
Farmhouse restaurants serve chicken stewed in an iron pot, stir-fried pepper leaves with egg, baked cylinder-oven flatbread, and wild greens. The Dasheng Food Court below the mountain has simple meals. Nearby independent stops include the Eighth Route Army’s 129th Division Site, Hanwang Jiuzhai (韩王九寨), and Dawa Village. Wahuang Palace is also in She County, but it is a separate scenic area with its own entrance, ticket, and itinerary.
