A city walk from the historic street to the river
This combined route starts at the iron arch at the south end of Central Street, continues north to the Flood Control Monument plaza, and then follows the river into Stalin Park. Central Street is about architecture, cobblestones and shops; the Flood Control Monument is a landmark on the Songhua River; Stalin Park is an open riverside park. The three names describe three connected but different spaces.
The street and riverfront are free and do not require reservations. Central Street itself is open around the clock, while shops and restaurants generally keep their own hours, often around 09:00–21:00. A quick route takes about 1–2 hours and a full route about 3–4 hours; holiday crowds add walking and waiting time.
Start at the south end and finish in the north
The south end of Central Street is near Jingwei Street. From Exit 1 or 3 at Central Street Station on Metro Line 2, walk to the south-end iron arch. Driving is inconvenient because parking around the area is tight; plan arrival from the metro exit and the walk to the arch, not around finding a curbside space.

Central Street: buildings, cobblestones and city food
The main sights line the street. The iron arch, cobblestone paving, Modern Hotel, former Songpu Foreign Firm building (now an education bookstore) and Huamei Western Restaurant can be viewed in walking order, with the focus on the European-style façades and changing shopfronts on both sides.
The interior spiral staircase, second-floor windows and Schock Courtyard at Songpu Foreign Firm work well for photographs. Cobblestones may be icy in winter, so do not stop in the main passage for a shot. Madier ice cream, Qiulin kvass and Lao Chang spring pancakes are possible local tastes; restaurant queues depend on the day's crowd.
Flood Control Monument: the independent landmark at the north end
The Flood Control Monument stands in Stalin Park beside the Songhua River and is the walking endpoint at the north end of Central Street. Its reliefs include historical scenes such as the “Songjiu Dama” relief (送酒大娘, literally “woman delivering liquor”). Stop in the plaza to examine the details, then turn towards the river and the opposite bank.
The monument plaza is an open, free space accessible all day, reached directly from the north end of Central Street. It connects to the street but is its own plaza. The walk from the north end to the monument is a transition in the route; river activities and ferry piers operate separately.
Stalin Park: everyday life along the east bank
Stalin Park extends east from the Flood Control Monument as an open riverside park without a separate enclosure or ticket. White sculptures, riverside benches, the Workers' River Sports Club and the Railway River Club's older buildings sit alongside ordinary local activities such as walking, singing and fishing.

1–2-hour quick walk
Enter through the iron arch at the south end and walk north along Central Street. See the cobblestones, Modern Hotel, Songpu Foreign Firm and the main-street buildings before finishing at the Flood Control Monument plaza. Focus on façades and the river view; this suits limited time or a simple city walk.
After reaching the monument, spend 20–30 minutes in the plaza, then return along Central Street or walk towards the metro. If you continue into Stalin Park, add the riverside walking time; reaching the monument does not finish the longer route.
3–4-hour full walk
Walk north from the south entrance, adding Schock Courtyard, any open interior areas at Songpu Foreign Firm and a meal or snack along the main street. At the Flood Control Monument, examine the reliefs, then continue east on Stalin Park's riverside path and finish near the old river-club buildings and open riverbank.
An afternoon departure can take in sunset at the monument before continuing through the park. If the main street is crowded on a holiday, shorten restaurant and indoor-photo stops and protect the one-way route from the south entrance to the monument. Add Songhua River Railway Bridge separately, with its wind, length and return time.
Connect with ferries, sightseeing boats and the cableway
Ferries or sightseeing boats may operate near the Flood Control Monument, but prices, routes and sailing status depend on weather and water level. Ask about the price, route and return arrangement before boarding; do not pay an unverified riverside offer.
Get there
Metro to the south end
Take Metro Line 2 to Central Street Station and use Exit 1 or 3. Walk towards Jingwei Street and the iron arch at the south end of Central Street. You can also use Shangzhi Street Station and walk, but the south-to-north route is clearest when started at the south arch.
Walk to the riverfront
Central Street is a north–south pedestrian street that naturally reaches the Flood Control Monument plaza at its north end. From the monument, walk east along the river into Stalin Park. The park has no separate ticket gate to find; its open riverside paths are the main visiting space.
Driving and return
Parking around Central Street and the riverfront is tight, especially on weekends and holidays, so driving is not recommended. Leave by walking back to Central Street or towards a metro station. If you plan to use a ferry, cableway or sightseeing boat, confirm each return point and ticket separately.
Know before you go
Crowds, surfaces and photography
The main street is crowded on weekends and holidays, and cobblestones can be wet and slippery after rain or snow. Wear shoes with good grip. Songpu Foreign Firm's second floor, Schock Courtyard, the monument plaza and park benches are all photo spots, but keep doorways, stairs and riverside paths clear.
Shops, restaurants and plaza activities keep their own schedules. “Open all day” applies to the street and park spaces, not every shop, building interior or performance. Central Street's free walking route, the monument plaza and Stalin Park have no unified admission ticket.
Seasonal river safety
When the river rises in summer, embankments may be slippery; keep away from dangerous water. Ferries and sightseeing boats may stop temporarily because of weather or water level. In winter, river activities depend on ice inspections and site management. Do not decide for yourself that the ice is safe, and stay away from ice-cutting, work areas and dangerous water.
