An open walkway on the old river bridge
Songhua River Railway Bridge is inside Zhongdong Railway Park on the east side of Stalin Park in Daoli District. It was built in 1900 and has been adapted into an open pedestrian space. The steel trusses, vintage bridge towers and glass walkway are the main sights; this is an industrial-heritage walk, not paid transport.
From the Flood Control Monument, walk east along Stalin Park's riverside path for about 10 minutes to a convenient bridge entrance. Admission is free, no reservation is required and the bridge is open all day. Lighting is currently listed as 19:00–22:00, possibly longer in the busy season. A quick route takes 30–60 minutes; a full city walk takes about 1.5–2 hours.
Reaching the middle is enough
The bridge is long. Enter from the Stalin Park side, walk to the central glass section and open viewing position, then return. The opposite bank is an old shipyard neighbourhood with fewer people, and a taxi can be difficult to find after dark. Making the middle section the turnaround point is more practical for time and safety.
The bridge may be icy in winter, and river wind is stronger than in the streets. Summer and autumn are good for river and sunset views; winter is good for steelwork and snow, but phones and cameras lose power quickly, so keep equipment close to your body.

Steel trusses, bridge towers and glass walkway
The steel trusses are the main industrial-architecture feature. The bridge tower and “Songhua River” sign make a good first photo after entering. At the centre, use the glass walkway to look at the river and space below; a low angle can frame the structural lines.
Sunset and lighting
Leave Central Street at around 16:00, walk via the Flood Control Monument and Stalin Park, and aim to reach the bridge for sunset. Lighting is currently listed as 19:00–22:00 and can change with the season. If you want both sunset and the lights, time the departure around that day's sunset.
The centre combines the river, steel frame and city outline in one view. From the riverbank below, you can photograph the full bridge and reflections. Wind is usually more noticeable at night, so stop only where the safety line and path conditions allow.
For city walking and architecture photography
The bridge and riverbank are open environments, so wind, snow, ice and light affect the experience. Visitors with limited mobility should assess the approach slope, icy surface and return distance and choose the central glass section or a near-end viewpoint accordingly.
Build your day
30–60-minute out-and-back to the bridge centre
Enter from the east end of Stalin Park. Photograph the bridge tower and “Songhua River” sign first, then walk towards the central glass walkway. Look at the river, steel trusses and city outline from the centre, photograph what you need and return along the same route to Stalin Park.
This route makes the bridge centre the endpoint and does not enter the opposite-bank neighbourhood. In winter or strong wind, shorten it to the bridge tower and near-end viewpoint. If the surface is icy, snowy or subject to a management notice, turn back within the open area.
1.5–2-hour city walk
Start around 16:00 from the south side of Central Street, walk north to the Flood Control Monument and continue east along Stalin Park's riverside path to the bridge. Spend some time at Central Street, the monument, the park and the bridge, then watch the sunset or photograph from the centre before returning.
Turn back according to the weather
Check wind, snow, lighting and crowds on the bridge before choosing the centre or a near-end viewpoint as the day's endpoint. If wind, snow, ice or a companion's condition makes the bridge uncomfortable, stay around Stalin Park and the bridgehead and return towards Central Street.
Lighting is currently listed as 19:00–22:00. You can finish in daylight if you only want the structure; for night views, include the return and equipment-warming time. There is no reliable food supply on the bridge, so buy water and snacks around Central Street or the park.
Get there
Walk from the Flood Control Monument
From the north end of Central Street, reach the Flood Control Monument and walk east along Stalin Park's riverside path for about 10 minutes to a convenient bridge entrance. This is the clearest pedestrian approach and includes the monument plaza and open riverfront.
Metro and walking
Take Metro Line 2 to Central Street Station or Line 3 to Zhaolin Park Station, then walk towards Central Street, the monument and Stalin Park. Navigate to Zhongdong Railway Park or the south-bank bridgehead rather than setting the destination as the remote opposite bank.
Driving, taxis and leaving
The bridgehead is on the old-city riverfront, where parking is limited. Do not drive right to the bridge. A taxi can use the east side of Stalin Park or the Zhongdong Railway Park entrance as the destination. After turning back from the bridge centre, call the car on the south bank; do not cross to the far side to look for a taxi at night.
Know before you go
Wind, snow and walking on the bridge
The bridge is long and exposed to river wind; winter surfaces may be icy and wet. Wear shoes with good grip and use a wrist strap or close storage for your phone and camera. Stay on the path and turn back immediately when there is ice, snow, a closed section or a strong-wind notice.
The glass walkway and bridgehead photo positions may be busy. Stand to the side when taking pictures and keep the crossing route clear. Reaching the centre and returning already provides the main view; there is no need to walk the entire bridge for distance.
Lighting, photographer services and the return
Lighting is currently listed as 19:00–22:00 and may run later in the busy season. Exact lighting and bridge access change with season, weather and management. Photographer services solicited on the bridge vary in quality; inspect samples and prices before paying and decline aggressive offers.
There is no stable food or rest stop on the bridge, and the night return is harder than from the Central Street side. For a sunset visit, keep the walk back to the south bank, car or metro station at the end of the route.
